It was a good day on Twitter for me yesterday. This post has been viewed 958,000 times:
The two threads I write have also been well read:
and:
That is more than 3 million Twitter impressions in a day, which is, I think, a new record for me.
Three thousand new followers in 24 hours is also a record.
A 'like' from Gary Lineker (yes, that one: he follows me on Twitter) might have helped the first thread. It was either that or the fact that it simply resonated with a lot of people.
Thanks for reading this post.

No doubt a ‘like’ from Gary Lineker helps – not least in bringing your blog to the attention of people who might otherwise not think it relevant/interesting to them, Richard. But I’m sure the main reason is that so many of your tweets (which to be honest I only read when you post them to this blog) cover subjects that increasingly resonate with people. And as more and more people fall into that category and/or become aware of why the UK is in the sorry situation it’s in I’m sure your following and readership will only increase: witness what you’ve been saying on interest rate rises and the BOE and what’s going to happen today as just one example. And things are only going to get much, much, worse – and more and more people aware and experiencing all the various issues you regularly cover – as we head further into winter – again, as you’ve been arguing for many months now.
With close to 1 million people by your side now is the time to surely get National mainstream coverage by standing for Parliament. Perhaps as an independent if you have “burnt your bridges with the Labour Party”?? Try and make a meaningful difference?
Why would I want to reduce my impact?
Tracey, how would Richard becoming an MP get more done than he’s doing already? I’m beginning to see his work percolate into discussion of government finances (at least amongst commentators/broadcasters/members of the public who aren’t convinced right wingers), inequality, the climate disaster etc.
His record Twitter reach is also evidence of this. As we can see from the awful mess we’re in, it’s about time. He’s been able to do this because he is not tied down with party politics, or the mountain of constituency business MP’s have, or should deal with, as part of their jobs.
His prodigious work rate on pushing these matters forward has achieved this. None of it would be possible as an MP, especially in our hopelessly outdated Parliament where FPTP gives a huge majority to the dishonest and incompetent tories.
Or are you just another troll?
The last, I am sure
