Quote of the day from John Crace, in The Guardian:
Johnson used to at least be able to give a passable imitation of being Boris Johnson. Now he can't even manage that. The gags and the mannerisms that used to be his calling card, now just fall flat. A one-trick pony whose one trick everyone knows. The surface has been stripped bare to reveal a core of molten need. Someone who craves attention and fears he wouldn't exist without it. Someone whose narcissism leaves him devoid of empathy. Incapable of either giving or receiving love.
There's really not much more to add to that. I think it true that he is a man devoid of empathy. Despite which he is the person forecast to be our next prime minister.

Eddie Mair had Johnson bang to rights six years ago. “You’re a nasty piece of work, aren’t you?” https://youtube.com/watch?v=ZAxA-9D4X3o
I’m sure this roasting is one of the reasons why he avoids long and searching interviews with serious journalists. Even in the midst of shamelessly politicising a terrorist atrocity, he couldn’t stop himself lying through his teeth. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2019-50624056
and others have noticed: The New York Times on our election. The headlines
A serial liar. A campaign of online disinformation. The risk of foreign meddling. Sound familiar?

John Grace. Always a good read
This makes me realise just how far the BBC has slipped behind in mainstream political commentary and satirical output.
This is comedic in style, but it isn’t really funny.

Good job by John Oliver
Incisive!
Narcism might be the reason why he is devoid of empathy, yes, but perhaps it is something else. Either way, people of faith express sum the effect up nicely: SIN’ – Self, I, Nobody else.
The highwaymen in the party of capital-accumulation look less-honourable every day as we see them for what they are.
I cannot think of a single member of the current Cabinet who demonstrates any empathy whatsoever. I’ve observed that the political world has a lot of people scrambling up the greasy pole, for whom others are only of interest if they can further their careers. However I’ve seen enough of them close up to know that they are not all like that and there are those who show real concern for their fellow humans, ideology free. Jess Phillips and Sarah Wollaston would be two, and I sense many of those who have walked away from the Tory party.
Those we are left with are sociopathic or worse, and I do not use the term lightly.
I agree
There are some really decent politicians
And let’s be honest, some very nasty people in all parties, I suspect
Richard, the word you’re looking for is SOCIOPATH.
Narcissism is a psychiatric disorder in the psychopathy spectrum.
A narcissist is interested only in him/herself.
A sociopath is a narcissist that hates other people.
A psychopath is a sociopath that kills other people.
To a degree, many Tories and sadly many Labour and LibDems are in the psychopathic spectrum.
Many of us sane humans have recognised this: it’s time we act, because psychopaths always, invariably, lead to war.
