I just posted an infographic and noted that James and Sam, who is doing an internship with us, have been iterating ideas on infographics. I have already shared one from James. This one is from Sam, based on this morning's video:

I came here, having just read an article in The Guardian that Burnham promises to meet fiscal rules. I wondered what your take would be. The infographic is very helpful. Thank you.
Superb!
I will tell Sam
Tell Sam! All these infographics are excellent in-a-nutshell sources, they pack a lot in.
Team FtF to be commended. 🙂
Very good – thank you to the excellent artist, Richard.
This 365. The Economy Follows Energy, Not Government | Chatting about Localism
Thanks for the link Mr Meldon. Extract:
“As surplus energy declines, the United Kingdom is experiencing a gradual transition towards a smaller, less complex economy. This should not be confused with a temporary recession. It represents a long-term structural adjustment driven by physical realities rather than political ideology.”
It doesn’t (surplus energy declines). In common with Spain, the UK chucks away@ the moment circa 15TWh/yr of elec. As more renewables connect to the system (in MW terms) so surpluses (in MWh terms) increase, non-linearly. This can be proved and applies as much to countries as it does to e.g. your local primary substation i.e. we are in empirical territory. If the UK gov so chose, it could power the totality of the EU (circa 18,000TWh/yr of energy consumption- not elec) just from off-shore wind around the UK. The UK does not lack for energy & the tech means to harvest it exists. What we lack is a political & financial system for this to happen. Sad.

I need this in blog format
Richard
The issue is that the grid is not able to take on extra capacity. This lack of forward thinking by the Tories leads to billions of £s worth of renewable initiatives being stalled or cancelled. There needs to be better battery storage. Instead money will be piles into nuclear and that’s so expensive compared to wind & solar. Scotland meanwhile sells off its renewables contracts for peanuts. Norway leads the way and we need to reflect on why it has trillions while there’s nothing in the pot here in the UK. No wonder Scots are fed up.
Agreed
Response to Richard: OK.
Response to Mr Dapre: batts are fine for 24hrs & thus PV. More network is only a partial answer.
Be more selective in the AI arena….
FOMO means lots of wasted money on new DCs which consume massive resources for???
Work smart and targeted. Oooops just seen my mistake
PS infographics are boss, thanks
The infographics are outstanding. ……a very positive innovation
Great infographic – pity it won’t be seen on BBC Newsnight – no one is allowed to say fiscal rules make things worse – despite the evidence of 14 years.
Nice. Just one change I’d suggest: in the panel with the arrows have the top one pointing left (backwards) and the bottom one pointing right (forwards, specifically pointing at the panels with the solutions).

Well done Sam! Excellent work.
In a perfect nutshell – you couldn’t put it better than this.
David Byrne says:
Richard, hammer home the big fiscal win for Burnham.
The Bank of England should be told by the Treasury to stop paying interest on Reserve Accounts. This will provide £40-50B for investment.
Suggest that in part, Student Debt could be paid off together with other popular wins.
Andy, just do it. Bankers and shareholders will squeal, but the UK needs it.
Also, Thames Water is bankrupt. Just nationalise it tomorrow with no compensation. Why mess about?
The gain is only £20bn max now. In reality, £10bn at best.
Wonderful infographic 🙂
Spells out what is needed…
If ONLY Burnham could see it
…and in a flash of clarity
see THIS IS THE WAY forward to do all he claims he can
They’re all good, but this one has a definite edge, make Sam Director of Infographics. It would be nice if some wealthy sponsor would pay to have a Funding the Future infographic on page 3 of The Sun every morning.
As I’m sure Mike Parr will understand, any significant improvement to the UK electricity infrastructure will need to come in 3 phases.
