The team here had another meeting this morning and reviewed all the feedback (including a few not even through moderation as yet due to the pressure of time), we have had on the suggested retitling of our ideas.
We noted that Politics for People is generally working for most commentators. We discussed the exceptions, but decided to stick with this term.
We also noted and heard loud and clear the kickback on the political economy of care as a subtitle. We agreed that we needed to change that. It is too academic and unclear.
We discussed the proposed alternatives, but I then raised the possibility that we might already have the required terminology. It is 'Politics for People: Funding the Future'.

The team instantly liked this. I rarely win an argument so easily.
Thoughts?

Magic! A resounding yes from me as it crossed my mind the other day but I discarded it as it didn’t include, care. I will add, however, that nothing works forever so just do what works… until it doesn’t!
Thanks, Simon.
Alliteration in the title *and* the subtitle – has to be a winner
🙂
Funding a Caring Future
Care does not work on social media. That’s why we had to make these changes.
As I said in my comment yesterday, the term “care” takes on different connotations in different countries.
The connotation of “care” in the USA on first read of a headline does NOT equate to what Richard wants to say or thoughts he wishes to provoke.
“Politics for People: Funding the Future” is prefect for an international audience.
I know all Englishmen hate anyone who tries to “push in” but all Englishmen must accept that the “Politics for People: Funding the Future” blog has gone international.
Thanks
Over 40% of yesterday’s YouTube traffic was outside the UK, split between the US and Australia with many others trailing behind.
I had a couple of thoughts yesterday – which may not be of any use but, since we are still discussing I thought I’d throw them in the ring.
I like Politics for People, with one small caveat, as my mind answered who else would it be for? Cats? Dogs? …. (sorry, my brain can be snarky like that) … brain also wants to keep adding ‘the’ between ‘for’ and ‘people’ (but maybe because I too am old enough to remember Citizen Smith and power to the people!)
Would People-Focused Politics make the point that this is politics with people at the heart (rather than big business, self interest etc..) – still 3 words, and still PfP – I did also wonder about People-Centred Politics, but with an acronym of PcP maybe not 🙂
Apologies if this seems like quibbling – just a thought. Fully on board with everything you are doing Richard, thank you.
Thanks
I think we are close to meking up our minds now.
We bought politics for people domain names today.
I like it.
Funding = serious and practical, not pie-in-the-sky. Future – not talked about enough in politics, but it is what we worry about when we can spare any worry from the present.
And as noted by another, alliteration. A little alliteration goes a long way, rolls off the tongue. Maybe you’ve found the lost consonance…
It means talking about hypotheticals which politicians always say they can’t do.
You are correct in decoding how search engines actually work and making that work for you. It is what it is. No harm done.

Aaargh!
The 3 thumbs up emojis didnt make it into my post.
Bah, humbug.
Title: hooray!
Graphic: hooray!
Domain name protection: hooray!
Ah!
I think for readers Funding the Future has been great, for wider appeal I am not sure what meaning people will attach to “Future”, could be misinterpreted as “not now folks but jam tomorrow”. What are we funding …… a sustainable society. a caring society. Including funding is important as it does imply how we run the economy. Maybe “Funding Society”
Noted, but I think that given all politics is about the future as nothing changes today the term works, especially as most politicias only want to look backwards
Yes! Says it all; sets the thought processes running and would even look good on a teeshirt.
We’re not planning them…
It was discussed
I didn’t think you were but in many ways it’s the acid test. As an old boss used to say “if it doesn’t fit on a teeshirt, you haven’t thought about it enough”.
🙂
I still have a tiny niggling red flag (ha!) about ‘for people’. Would there be any mileage in ‘for everyone’, or ‘for everybody’, or ‘for all of us’? But I can see those aren’t as catchy, and anyway you have the domain name now (excellent work!).
I liked that you used ‘well-being’ (with or without the hyphen) in your draft yesterday, which to me could in several places in the statement replace ‘care, which has regrettably been somewhat tarnished – although not as badly tarnished as other words like ‘welfare’ and ‘benefit’, which were once entirely positive.
Noted
Thanks
Its a shame that Care has to take a subordinate role in the titles. Its the only thing that really matters. I see the logic in your approach and I see what you have written elsewhere, FtF so be it.
Care will always be there
Looks good to me.
Personally, whether “Tax Research”, “Funding the Future”, “Politics of Care” or “Politics for People” makes no difference to me…. so I did not comment. But I do recognise that it DOES matter if the ideas (which I DO care about) are to get broader traction.
What is most important is that ideas punted about in this blog get refined/modified and improved to deliver real proposals that any politician can pick up and run with…
Thanks Clive
We’re in the business of selling idea – although I find it hard to see it that way sometimes
It does seem to work – and well done for setting up the domain etc.
In an ideal world , politics shouldn’t be ‘for’ people but ‘done by’ people , or at least people should feel they are part of politics, and have influence and leverage on the system, rather than the politicians deigning to do politics on their behalf. But then we are not in an ideal world are we.
It works for me. Does this mean the blog will be changing its name to Politics for People as well? With FtF as the strapline?
I don’t think so….
We have not discussed it
I was lukewarm over ‘Politics for People’ but adding ‘Funding the Future’ not only points to the central message – ‘if it’s worth doing we can fund it’ but also the double alliteration trips off the tongue and so is a memorable beacon of hope.
Well done to the team.
Thanks
I’m glad you are retaining “Funding the Future”. It shows continuity with what went before and reassures that “Politics for People” is a change of name only.
