I was pleased to receive support for my new EU tax gap report from the EU Commissioner responsible for taxation yesterday:
My translation is:
1/2 The @RichardJMurphy report highlights the progress made in the fight against tax fraud and tax evasion in Europe and supports many of the proposals I have made, including the transition to qualified majority voting #QualifiedMajority #FairTaxation
2/2 It also highlights the way to go. It is an encouragement to continue our action with @Europarl_FR for a fairer taxation in Europe #FairTaxation

Not exactly a tumultuous response, but encouraging none the less.
Possibly more than you were expecting ? π
As good as could be hoped in hours
I am of the view that in order to tackle the lack of transparency regarding tax havens/ offshore accounts it would be better for the UK to remain within the EU and to have the political will to tackle this damaging problem that our economies face together with EU partners. Unfortunately, that will in the UK appears sadly lacking. It seems to me that only those who favour a continuance of secrecy over such financial dealings would favour the UK acting independently outside the EU’s jurisdiction.
So, in order to preserve the status quo and nullify the effectiveness of the EU over this matter, there are likely to be those in member states in support of this glad to see the UK leave. Imo.
Why do we have a Commissioner with responsibility for taxation in the first place. This is a matter devolved to member States. No wonder he’s got so much time on his hands to be on twitter during the day.
What next? An EU Commissioner for adult social care.
Then it is very clear you know nothing about taxation in an EU context
I suggest you do some research
McCoy’s Guide,
The full implications of “Customs Union” (for example) would appear to be lost on you. If I was McCoy I’d be a little worried.
That’s gotta be a good sign – in more ways than one.
