At this time yesterday I was finishing a blog on restating the personal tax statement George Osborne is sending out. I was not to know it was going to be the most instantly popular single day post I had ever done.
These are the stats just now:
That is an extraordinary number of shares. In total there were 18,000 reads here yesterday, but as the pie chart image was also shared by itself I think there may have been more than that. A good total at present is 6,000. There have been 3,000 so far this morning when usually there would be a few hundred, at best. That was the second best day ever on the blog (the day of the PAC hearings for Google, Amazon and Starbucks was the best). It also brought up 7 million total reads since 2006.
Thank you is all I can say.
Update at 13.35 on 5 November: that blog has now been read by 20,000 people today - already making this the best day ever on the blog, and comfortably beating yesterday's result

Well Richard we have you to thank for raising such hugely important public policy issues and being consistently brave to
Do so. There are thousands of accountants out there but you are a rare example of sacrifice honesty and ethics. Long May you live.
I second that last one and thanks for the rest
And thank you Richard – so often expertise such as yours is purchased handsomely by the ‘other side’ so it is great to see someone with your (dare I say it) ‘forensic’ knowledge of these issues attempting to provide an alternative analysis and different way forward.
Brilliant! Hurry up and recover from your operation. You are needed here!
All the best for Friday.
Thanks! Appreciated

I missed this blog on the day, Richard, but by now – 8th – I’m assuming the stats are way, way above what they were on the 5th. It’ll also be interesting to see how much of that interest translates into an increased readership for your blog – I suspect it’ll be considerable.
Anyway, that comment was really an opportunity to say that I hope the op went well. I note you’re back blogging and also on Twitter so I’ll take it you’re on the mend.
Best wishes as always.
Ivan
Something like 150,000 now
And yes on the mend
I feel vaguely human this morning
The last two days weren’t fun though
And still in hospital. The hoed for day case did not materialise. Something to do with a near
golf ball sized gall stone
Thanks to you and all for asking
