I've just presented a paper at CLASS - the Centre for Labour and Social Studies - on progressive taxation and how we might create the environment in which it is created.
The paper will follow.

In the interest of full disclosure, can you confirm that you are paid by the PCS?
If you are, do you believe it impairs your ability to be fully impartial on the subject of tax avoidance and the hiring of more public sector staff (both those that collect taxes and those that are dependant upon them)?
I accept that your general leaning is towards taxing us all more anyway so I don’t contend this means you are a hypocrite, but less obvious apparent conflicts of interest are regularly spun to cost a politician his/her job, no?
I disclose that PCS fund me here: I have made full disclosure http://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/about/ The suggestion I am not disclosing is just wrong: I do
I have always made it clear no one is impartial: those who claim they are can only be described as liars or people of impaired judgement
But, within that construct there are three things to not. The first is I write what I want; the second is if I was not allowed to do that I’d walk away from funding immediately; third, if the unions agree with me that’s great, but I don’t ask them to do so
As for wanting us to be taxed more – when have I ever said that? I want us all to pay our tax, but the policies of growth I suggest may well reduce tax cost. And of we are taxed more I want that to be decided democratically. Please do not spin.
