The world of corporate tax has changed in the last eight years

Posted on

Another speaker at the Social Market Foundation this morning was Vanessa Houlder of the FT. One of her interesting comments is that in the ast eight years the world of tax has changed.

Eight years ago, she said, companies did not worry about their reputational risk from tax.

Eight years ago it was impossible to imagine there could have been a UK Uncut.

Eight years ago it was even impossible to imagine think tanks would hold breakfast meetings on the tax gap, which was the subject of this morning's debate.

Nine years ago this month the Tax Justice Network held its inaugural meeting in the House of Commons.

If you want an explanation for the change in the last eight years, that's it.
