I hope that all those LibDem MPs who support current ConDem Higher Education policies, and the Higher Education bills still to be voted on, read this and finally understand that whether or not their policy for tuition fees is more ‘progressive’ than the current system is a red herring.
It is that they are presiding over something far greater and more worrying - the final destruction of an education system (and I mean system because schools policy is heading in the same direction)that was built on the philosophy of education as a public good.

If it’s true that graduates earn on average £100K more during their working lives, then they pay £20 – 40K more tax (more than enough to cover the cost of their education).
Graduates put much more back into the country than can be measured in simple monetary terms. They save lives, teach our children, make the innovations in science, technology and engineering that drive industry and create jobs.
The cost of a university education is an investment from which the whole of society benefits.

But the overwhelming benefit is to the graduate in the form of higher salary.
