My Jersey correspondent whose comments I’ve just posted concluded his mail saying:
Don't know if you've ever come across a Canadian songwriter called Bruce Cockburn, but if you look up the lyrics of his song "If I had a rocket launcher", they approximate to how I feel right now.
Thanks for all you are doing.
Well, I’ll make a confession: I’m a bit of a Bach man myself, and I’m also more than a bit a Quaker so I don’t tend to do rocket launchers — but I went and found the track. It is very good — and I understand exactly what my correspondent said — and the guys a brilliant musician too. See for yourself:
Note the last verse:
I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try
Every time I think about it water rises to my eyes.
Situation desperate, echoes of the victims cry
If I had a rocket launcher... Some son of a bitch would die
I don’t want any son of a bitch to die.
But this blog is my rocket launcher — and yes, the situation is desperate. Which is why I want to raise every voice -- at least I've got to try.
NB More such suggestions welcome

I’ve been a Bruce Cockburn fan for years. He’s a christian, so that pushes a few more of your buttons too.
“The candyman’s gone” is a good soundtrack for the current era.
No You Tube though….
