Jersey: getting it’s priorities wrong

Posted on

As one of my Jersey correspondents has told me this morning:

The States have been debating their spending plan. The "tax and spend" lobby is very small in Jersey: we are going to get cuts, it just depends how many. So far they have cut:

- a £30K/year grant that got primary school kids free access to the Zoo
- free school milk
- language assistantes

But you'll be delighted to hear that they voted Jersey Finance £400k to open a new Asia office...

And they say the finance industry hasn’t captured the state in Jersey?

Pull the other one.
