Mahatma Gandhi is credited with first saying:
- First they ignore you: People pay no attention to your ideas.
- Then they ridicule you: Critics laugh at your attempts to explain those ideas.
- Then they fight you: Opponents actively push back or argue once the idea gains traction. They can get very angry at the possibility that you might force them to change their world view.
- Then you win: Your viewpoint is accepted or proven correct, and everyone denies ever disagreeing with it. Your role is forgotten.
I have had a lot of people fighting me over modern monetary theory, bonds and related issues this week.
I must be winning.

You ARE winning Richard – you have changed the way thousands and thousands of people think. Keep up the good, no great, work. It’s an ultra marathon journey – however you don’t need me to tell you that.
Well we’re definitely at stage 3 – going by both my observations as well as my own experience
It seems so….
The neoliberal status quo is failing – the arguments dont fit the facts, the world it “created” is collapsing, locally, nationally, internationally,and globally, and the neoliberals have nothing to offer except hatred, division, scapegoating and ever more desperate repression and violence using their failing reseves of power and control.
Now we come to the tricky bit – getting the solutions, and the people to implement them, into place – either that, or the miraculous conversion of those who currently have the power, to a different way of thinkng.
Events in Nepal/Tibet have shown us the REAL face of the climate emergency, and who is paying the price for our folly. I hope our politicians feel proud of their callous cuts and manipulations of international aid, because I feel deeply ashamed of my country right now.
