The prospect of Trump's tariffs creating significant costs for the UK was discussed on Sophy Ridge's programme on Sky News last night.
Amongst those discussing the issue was Ed Vaizey, the former Tory culture minister who is now a peer. His suggestion was that at least we were only facing tariffs from Trump, and not invasion as Canada and Greenland are doing.
This caused amusement, in an ironic way. Everyone realised how low the bar is now set when discussing US relations. Trump really has debased the world of political economy.

Don’t worry. Starmer will appease the fascists.
I’m afraid they do not need to invade.
Their hyper-capitalist fifth columnists are already here and have been for some time.
We are already toast.
Filth columnists?
A change theme you have instilled in us on this blog Richard is, who profits? 20% tariffs each way is probable, but if business loses, does government win? More money “for the taxpayer” and Reeves’s balancing of the books ?
