Donald Trump was at the UN yesterday.
Amongst the many stupid things he had to say, including that this planet was cooling, he also claimed that he had a choice to make.
He could, he said, do a deal with Iran that would make it “a far greater country than it ever was before.”
Alternatively, he could “annihilate the Islamic Republic” and “drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations.”
In the process, he posed a threat that challenges the UN itself, an organisation created after World War II, dedicated to peace, not annihilation.
In that case, is that the language of a President, someone who has lost touch with reality, or someone to whom we would deny the oxygen of publicity, which is what he craves?

All I saw was a big child playing at being a grown up and the culmination of Neo-liberalism.
As for the UN, it needs a new location somewhere.
‘The shining city on the hill’?
The U.S. is more like Mordor every day.
Not sure about the above selection but he is certainly a sick man drunk on power.
“Not sure about the above selection but he is certainly a sick man drunk on power.”
From a Yank living through this catastrophic mess:
Not only is he drunk on power but he is physically discombobulating and mentally disnetagrating over the reality that he is going to lose much power come November 2026. The only question is how much power is Trump going to lose.
The only analogy I can come up with is to compare Trump to Hitler as Hitler was during the last two months of his life before the WWII ended with German surrender.
Outsider believe the the US electorate does not notice any of this. They do notice, gobsmacked and with their eyes wide open, every time they view posted gas (petrol) prices and review their grocery store receipts. Many people who voted for Trump for the simple reason they only vote Republican have “woke” up to this fact. The have “woke” up to the destruction Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu almost single handedly caused and their eyes are wide open and pen in hand to mark their ballots.
Footnote: Since Trump was elected in 2024, almost 1,000,000 young people, in the State of Texas, of immigrant descent have come of age (18 years) to be able to vote. I doubt these people will vote for Trump or his cronies. I am not pulling this fact out of the air. It was discussed, in great detail, yesterday on MS Now.
New data out today shows Trump at his lowest ever poll ratings
I sincerely hope that you are right.
I like Din_ald Trump, a typo?
To understand anything from Trump’s mouth, and similar political types I have found it easier to think of the opposite, of what they claim. They invert reality.
Edited….
I should read muy own work
I should read my own weork
It does not work
I think I’ve already stated that in another comment some months ago:
Trump always reminds me of the, pretty prophetic in hindsight, Sketch from Mitchell & Webb, called “Lunatic in a box”.
Listen to it (easily findable on Youtube) and just guess which of the 3 person in this sketch he could possibly represent.
He is beneath contempt, but I feel we must comment if only to point out that he is totally unfit for office.
I chose beneath contempt, though that should not imply beneath comment.
I was going to vote for “Beneath contempt” but is that the best we can do when the man and his henchmen are so dangerous?
His addiction to focusing as much attention as possible on himself, bad attention now as he is obviously incapable of anything good, has the eventual outcome of destroying him. Personally I’d prefer a justice system that makes an example of him in some lock up where he can no longer get the he is so addicted to. Sociopathy really is a heinous thing and we should be vigilant in discouraging it.
Thanks for asking a disturbingly relevant question.
Might Mr. Trump epitomise the dangers of assuming that democracy exists in a society if it has elections?
Might relatively genuine democracies demonstrate their reasonable validity by the the effects of their outcomes for all citizens and their children?
Might recognising that national societies are too large for pure democracy and are, in actuality, poliarcies, where various groups compete for power/group benefiting power, promote a better understanding of govenance structures and their consequential outcomes?
Please could you add a fifth option – ‘All of the above’.
That would get my vote.
Craig
P.S. And yet there are those so brainwashed by him and his cult that they will swallow this hook, line, sinker and subscription to Anglers’ Monthly
I don’t think he is any of the above. I think it shields him, or even gives him credit. He is a human like the rest of us. Which means he is driven by emotion and irrationality. He is clearly a very broken man, craving a hole to filled which never will be. Just like Putin. Therefore they are dangerous, they cannot manage the responsibility that comes with power, and I hope that the electorate punish them for it.
Jeffery Sachs labels DT an imbecile. Mary Trump, his niece, calls DT a malignant narcissist. One man so many descriptors. My rhetorical question – is he fit for office?? (we all know the answer)
He is all of those things.
But we knew all this, well before 2016. So my complaint is with all those who enabled him, resourced him and repeatedly elected him and his criminal corrupt lying cronies – and since then, have failed to stand up against him, speak truthfully about him and to him, and his evil corrupt tyrranical regime, or organise effective international resistance.
The result being, that his downfall will cause far more suffering globally than it would have done a few years ago.
Our government’s response to the predictable chaos caused by his tyranny? More instructions to us, to stockpile “essential items” (known as panic buying), while they have discussions about plans for preparing to think about a resilience strategy. (Wes Streeting….)
Question – is it ethical for me to go and panic-buy, in the absence of any government strategy to protect the vulnerable who lack the financial clout and physical ability to do so?
Do not panic buy
Quietly stock up
“ Twenty per cent of people in the UK live in poverty. They have no chance of buying these items. Many more households are stretched to their limits; they too will be unable to set aside moneyfor these items during a cost-of-living crisis. They will be incredulous at this suggestion”
And these people, Richard, who you rightly identified in an earlier post? What about them? They cannot quietly stock up – which was exactly your point. You called it a “crass” suggestion. How are we – or are we – to help them? I can help a few people in my village, but that’s it.
We have to deliver financial support for them – nothing less will do.
And I have never ruled out rationing and the need to plan for it.
@Hannah Walker
Quietly stock up, and if you can afford to, help food banks stock up too.
He is the mask slipped. No effort is made to disguise the cruelty and rampant exploitation. Western ethos without the “liberal” sanitisation, stripped back to the pure basics of power and control.
Those who have knowledge of these things suggest that he is mentally unfit
I chose mad as being the closest to the increasing mental incompetence we’ve been seeing. He’s always been bad, and we’ve sufficient evidence from his college days that he’s stupid therefore an idiot. We are seeing him decline in front of us month by month. If he hadn’t done such awful things throughout his life I’d feel sorry for him and for the obvious elder abuse going on. As it is I feel sorry for all the rest of us forced into living in his ridiculous and fantastical—in the darkest sense—world.
Trump is happy to be used by the Heritage Foundation etc because it allows him to dominate and increase his wealth regardless of the consequences.
It is clear that the current US administration is intent on ” appropriating” other states assets like oil and other minerals from Iraq and Venezuela. The US end game with Iran seems to be grab the oil production.
Dealing with Trump in a rational way is pointless. See tinkerman being bullied to revisit the Chagos Islands deal.
Today’s announcement that tinkerman wants to reset the arrangement with the EU by the end of 2026. Three months!! The EU moves at the pace of a pre global warming glacier. Is tinkerman as not connected with the real world as Trump?
Will the Democrats be different? Very unlikely. They essentially follow the same course as the GOP. Take money from the same billionaires.
Where does this leave the UK? As the Colonel commented in a post today in the world of banking after Brexit the UK has been by passed by the rest of the world.
The UK needs to wake up and the smell the way the world is going.
He was an idiot first – he’s always been that. As the favoured child in an elitist family he learned he could get away with being bad and making everything about him. There is a certain element of madness in that level of malignant narcissism, but certainly of late there has still been a descent into [further] madness.
If he wasn’t so dangerous, I’d say beneath contempt, but he has managed to raise himself so high that he cannot be so. Contempt, disgust, fury, despair… there are many feelings that people could associate with how they feel about him. Hopefully for an increasing number of Republicans that includes guilt.
He celebrated high crimes in front of international leaders. He demonstrated his gross unfitness to hold any kind of public office for all to see. The longer things go without impeachment or the 25th Amendment, the more shame on the cowardly Republican politicians and members of his administration as they continually demonstrate their absolute lack of integrity.
To me Trump is a malignant narcissist in the true Freudian sense, a fragile shell covering an existential void (or one of unspeakable perversion), who reacts to any threat with violent action. He recognises good in nothing except that which reinforces his shell. He is the penultimate form of the American Way, with only Christofascism to follow.
This was posted in the FT comments on Monday, by “Borrocks”:
”At what point is someone in Congress actually going to stand up and call Trump out for what he is? A fantasist; a liar; a dangerously ignorant power-crazed, self-promoting, narcissistic, Machiavellian sociopath, who should never, ever have been allowed anywhere near the White House.
We must stop treating his words and actions as some sort of temporary inconvenience which will pass if we just keep our heads down. The globally catastrophic damage which Trump has done – on a whim – will take decades to unravel. Much of it cannot be unravelled.
He may be classed as clinically sane, but his actions are not.”
There are obviously outs of rich and powerful people who are benefitting from Trump and therefore prepared to keep him in power. Greed is coming before common sense and worry about the consequences.
We should always remember that as Germany plunged towards the abyss of defeat Hitler raged at the cowardice and disloyalty of the German armed forces and populace, and how badly they had let him down , probably killing more people pro rata in those months of 1945 than any time previously and did his best to lead the nation into obliteration.
I can see Trump flailing around in desperation after losing Congress in six weeks time and doing some incredibly destructive things since his monstrous ego and narcissism won’t cope with being rejected and becoming a “loser”. On the other hand he may point out it would have been different were he on the ballot and blame the GOP, but still be incredibly destructive to “punish” the country.
I think Trump is a very sick man and, his niece Mary’s analysis seems to bear out that he has been sick since childhood. Having said that, he is not the real danger, he is the distraction. Stephen Miller, John Vought, and that crew (many from the Heritage Foundation) are introducing a fascist state while the media focus on Trump’s distorted view of the world. I’d guess the main stream media know this but avoid dealing with it because they have been state propagandists for a long time.
In common with many other mad, bad, contemptible narcissistic idiots, Trump just doesn’t know when to quit, does he? He’s busy skewering himself while the world watches.
However, like the turtle on the fence post, he didn’t get where he is on his own. The people who support him and elected him twice—either out of slack-jawed stupidity, or because they can carry on dismantling democracy while US voters stay focused on him—are the ones we should be worrying about. Trump isn’t the problem; they are.
I couldn’t respond to the poll because I wanted to reply ‘All of the above’
He will die one day..let’s hope before he does too much damage….cheer up…he’s human..he will die.
