My No.1 Prior:
No one person has a monopoly on the truth. Least of all me.
The BBC is supposed to describe the priors regarding Think Tanks. It doesn’t.
“The BBC enforces specific transparency rules for policy and research organizations appearing on its broadcasts.“Appropriate information about think tanks should be given to our audiences where relevant to the story”.

Politicians discussing Israel should declare as priors whether they are members of Labour/Tory Friends of Israel. They don’t.
Politicians discussing any topic should declare as priors whether they have received “donations” from companies with interests. They don’t.
I’m familiar with hidden beliefs but ‘Priors’ is a new word to me. Shorter and simpler than the word presuppositions used in linguistics and psychology.
Where I come from priors = criminal convictions.
And I think down to us, whenever we have the opportunity, to ask said journalists, as well as friends, family members and colleagues what their priors are. Perhaps it’s my boundless optimism as I still live in hope that at least some up and coming journalists and politicians will shake off and see through their own conditioning
The word ‘priors’ alone sounds provocative as it already has a connotation meaning ‘prior conviction’, otherwise along it means ‘something that came before’, I would be more interested in a politicians current beliefs, than their ‘prior’ beliefs. And if a journalist did ask a politicians their ‘priors’ they would probably walk off because they wouldn’t want to talk about their past convictions or the allegations They should still ask it, so funny when politicians run of in a little tantrum. You are 100 correct, no matter what words a journalist chooses it is essential the journalists push politicians on their policies, so they have to own up to their beliefs and end the gaslighting. A NZ politician under questioning had to admit they chose to leave children in poverty, because it was their ‘philosophy’ that informed their policies. They believed that ‘parents should have the dignity of work’ even if that left children suffering in poverty. I think it would cost $30m to end poverty for children in NZ, and that is a tiny about in budgets of $1b. Sadly I have come to the conclusion that people get a kick out of seeing other people suffer and the politicians are delivering for them, and that is how they get their votes. People believe they need to maintain a poverty class, even though that makes no economic sense. Its puritanical, it seems we are living under the boot of 500 year old beliefs
Priors are their current, unstated, assumptions.
