I know that for many people and organisations, today is the last day of work in 2025. It won't be here at Funding the Future.
That said, I have abandoned the idea of getting out our guide to modern monetary theory before Christmas. The analysis I did earlier this week on a Financial Times article on autism and ADHD, to which they have not yet provided any response, delayed that. So too have the after effects of the 'flu I had, as a result of which I'm still feeling tired. The recovery of energy after that bug has been very slow. I've had to face reality as a result, and this guide will now be a goal for early 2026.
Turning to the Christmas theme, I am planning to reduce blog output from this weekend onwards, but it will most certainly not stop. Christmas Day apart, I suspect there will be something every day. I always seem to get a bug to write about something.
When it comes to videos, the plan is to produce one every day, including Christmas Day, though I have to admit they will be pre-recorded. That said, unlike most Christmas specials, the camera has not yet been turned on, but I am hopeful that all will be finished by Tuesday night.
Why do this? Because I recognise that many people get quite bored over Christmas, I think that makes it an ideal moment to keep talking about things that are of interest. I hope you will join us.

I think it is also worth remembering what Richard’s blog is primarily about…creating a fairer, more caring and more equal society that benefits all. It won’t be my last working day for this year as I try to progress some projects, however, far more importantly it won’t be the last working day for many in the care sector, etc. Those who are, in many cases, most let down by neoliberal economics, private-sector focused politicians, etc….and they don’t even get to spend an uninterrupted holiday season with their loved ones. That is, those who would most benefit from the change in political and economic changes that Richard is trying to inform on.
More power to your elbow Richard! It is at this time of year why your proposed changes are necessary as they are starkly evident. The organisation I lead (which is not a charity, in the care sector, etc.) have been even busier than ever trying to help local food banks, collecting (from our colleagues) Christmas gifts for children who would otherwise not get a single present. Your work is hugely important, Richard. The ideas and comments of your readers and the dissemination of the content of the blog is also hugely important. Let’s all keep up the good fight in 2026.
