A supposed post-conflict deal for Gaza's reconstruction is set to be signed today. The problem with the agreement is that it appears there is no Palestinian involvement in the deal.
On the other hand, as The Guardian noted last night:
The former UK prime minister Tony Blair appears to have won the endorsement of the Palestinian Authority to be involved in the reconstruction of Gaza, after an exploratory meeting in Jordan.
There is a need for candour about what is happening. What is going to happen today is colonisation in action, in 2025.
What else can I say, except that I am appalled by this? What is happening is about as far from what I suggested on Saturday for the need for post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza as it is possible to get.
What I know is that this will not end well. There is no way it can if this is the direction of travel. Colonisation has never solved anything. It has only fuelled tensions. It can, as a result, do nothing for the people of Gaza, the West Bank or even Israel. Another disaster is in the making today. There is nothing to celebrate about that.

I’m extremely worried about seeing pictures of alleged HAMAS operatives on the streets – well – what is left of the streets. I’ve got this sense that it could all just revert very quickly to the active horror we have been seeing.
Anyone who thinks that a thoroughly disgraced character like Tony Blair – who went along with one of the biggest lies in recent history (Iraq) is an answer to anything must be thoroughly detached from reality.
The supposed deal for Gaza seems a little reminiscent of the way Western companies and “consultants” poured into Moscow in the immediate aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the so- called reconstruction of Iraq. Neither are shining examples of western democracy in action.
I read your piece on ‘who will pay’ and a piece by Patrick Cockburn on who might be in control. He reported that there was an Arab-led plan which was uncertain on funding. The people of Palestine should have the reins, but it looks unlikely. Bitterly unjust.
The entire deal is in the hands of crooks, war criminals and dictators, so no surprise there.
Another journalist was assassinated yesterday in Gaza, the latest in a long line of assassinated Gaza journalists. The PA is speaking with several voices.
Several vital parts of the Gaza plan were announced but not “agreed” – because they are to be “imposed”.
If the hostages are released today by Hamas, then Gaza will join the West Bank, E. Jerusalem, Southern Lebanon, Golan Heights & other parts of occupied Syria, that the world isn’t interested in very much.
The 80yr injustice continues.
The governments of Western countries will increase their suppression of of dissent, calling it terrorism and hate crimes.
The people of Gaza will be required to show “gratitude” for their servitude and exploitation, and dissent there will be put down harshly but covertly.
“Official” journalism from Gaza will focus on good news stories – recovery, hope, rebuilding, while utterly failing to document two years of genocidal cruelty and destruction.
Evil men will prosper.
Violence will spread.
Or the world could say “NO!”.
The UN GA could say “NO!”.
Arab nations could say “NO!”.
China could say “NO!”.
We could continue to say “NO!” (and be abused for so doing).
My prayer has been for “peace with justice”.
This is neither.
But peace with justice WILL come.
Well said, RobertJ above.
It is a gross distortion of reality to name the temporary suspension of genocide “peace”. My disgust with the worldwide collusion in this willful deception is beyond expression.
“ What I know is that this will not end well. There is no way it can if this is the direction of travel. Colonisation has never solved anything”.
My suspicion: they just need to hold it all together for another year in time for Trump to get his Nobel Peace prize and then everyone will revert to business as usual.
