The Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025
As is noted:
This bill authorizes the President to enter into negotiations with the government of Denmark to purchase or otherwise acquire Greenland. The bill also renames Greenland as Red, White, and Blueland.
I can only imagine two countries where this might be possible. One is Vulgaria, the fictional European country in the story of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was ruled by Baron Bomburst.
The other is the USA, which is ruled by Donald Trump.
That is how absurd the world is becoming.

It’ll be very interesting to see what Rachel Maddow and co on MSNBC have to say tonight, Richard. On which point, no doubt you noticed that last week in his speech at Justice Trump specifically said that CNN and MSNBC were ‘illegal’ – because they keep having negative/critical reports about him. I’m waiting to see how long before he acts on that claim. I suspect not that long – Easter, perhaps?

That reads very weirdly.

I think it was the other way ’round about the discovery of the 22 Billion dollars missing at the Pentagon. The Michigan State economics professor, Prof. Skidmore, if I remember correctly, read somewhere that the Pentagon had not accounted for 8 billion dollars and the professor thought that this must be a typo. It must be million, not billion. So in an act of patriotism, he assigned his graduate economy students the task of looking into the statement, thinking to correct the typo with facts. Dr. Skidmore’s students discovered $22 billion not accounted for. This story was a two-paragraph, page 14 or 15 story in the New York Times.
Catherine Austin Fitts is one of the few people who noticed it and spoke about it and wrote about it. The Nation did an whole investigative journal deep dive on the story and published it in February of 2020 or 2021. I wrote to Congressman and Senators without a response, except one form letter about fiscal responsibility and taking things very seriously, blah, blah.
I wrote to thank The Nation for doing a full-blown study of the situation. For thirty or forty years, the Pentagon has avoided any audit. And every year they ask for more billions of dollars and they get it. Year after year. I tried again and again to get attention on the issue with letters named, “I want my $22 Billion back! To no avail!

I think the key word there is, “otherwise”.
That gives Trump many options. Ultimately, he will decide what “otherwise” means.
It is absurd. There should be outrage.
That is mindless.
Mind you, the issue is who will help facilitate it? I bet there are those that can, just like the purchase of rights over the Panama canal?
Sounds a bit like the plot of Duck Soup ( Marx Brother’s film) with Rufus T Firefly (Groucho) about to take over as dictator of Freedonia. A crazy plot, but not half as daft as Trump’s (mis)adventures with Greenland. Both excellent comedies, but one was meant to be entertainment. Are we meant to take the other seriously?
Let’s hope no one in the Trump Administration has seen ‘Passport to Pimlico’ . Otherwise we might find ourselves dealing with a ‘Burgundian’ situation, following the discovery of a hitherto unknown Charter and Treaty, signed by Erik the Red, granting the Navajo Nation the right to settle Greenland.
