This is getting silly. As the Telegraph has just reported in an email:
Donald Trump said he will double metal tariffs against Canada and threatened to impose levies on its car industry as relations between the North American nations soured.
The US president announced he would impose 50pc tariffs on all steel and aluminium coming into the US from Canada.
He said the new levy would come into force from tomorrow and was in retaliation for Ontario's decision to place a 25pc tariff on electricity coming into the US.
I did, of course, suggest some time ago that Trump's trade wars would be deeply destructive. That is clearly his intention. There is quite literally no possible good outcome from what he is doing.
The question is, where does this end, apart from in tears?

Maybe the intention is to run the stock market down so low and then suddenly (after all his pals have made new investments) stop all the tariffs so the market rebounds and they all make lots of money. It seems that money and more money is the only motivator for this bunch of greedy clowns. There is apparently already growing blowback from many Americans, especially those who’ve lost their jobs ( or who maybe have lost their jobs as they don’t know if the Orange One will change his mind tomorrow) Republican Congress people have been advised not to hold constituency meetings as they are becoming raucous. Magnificent song from Canada. Nice to see them, as well as the EU, tell the fat orange faced moron to get lost. I wonder whether, in the face of their constituents’ anger, Republican party members will also start fighting back?
Meanwhile our spineless government prefers to offer a second state visit to Trump. I donated £20 yesterday to the Stop Trump coalition who are working to stop this visit; or if that can’t be stopped, to mount a huge demo.
