As Robert Reich noted yesterday:
Within 36 hours [of Vice President Mike Pence commencing the hearing to confirm the election of Joe Biden as US President on 6 January 2021], five people died [as a result of the Trump-inspired invasion of Congress]. One was shot by Capitol Police, another died of a drug overdose, three died of heart attacks or strokes, including a police officer who died the day after being assaulted by rioters. Many were injured, including 174 police officers. Four other officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months.
As Mike Pence subsequently said:
President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. And his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know history will hold Donald Trump accountable.
Trump has not been held accountable. Today, he will be confirmed by Kamala Harris in her role as current Vice President and the next President of the USA.
I will quote Robert Reich again:
That Donald J. Trump — the same person who instigated a coup four years ago tomorrow, when Congress last gathered to certify an election — will become President on January 20 is an assault on the rule of law and the foundations of our democracy.
We must never forget. January 6, 2021 should live in infamy, as should Trump.
Political corruption has rarely been more blatant than that perpetrated by Trump.
We really should not ever forget that.
This man is President at cost to innocent people who died without him being held accountable for their deaths, which he should have been. They did not have justice, but that does not mean Trump is not guilty.

Agreed.
This is not democracy.
It is a travesty.
A bad omen of things to come but also a reminder that the West never truly dealt with the the political science of fascism after the second world war and let it ferment instead.
A precedent has been set. There are no characters who are unacceptable as US President.
Trump engaged in an insurrection, the US Constitution, 14th Amendment, s 3, should have prevented him from being listed as a presidential candidate on the presidential primary ballot but the Supreme Court over-ruled that.
I’d like to think the farce, and it’s effects, would be contained within the borders of the USA but no such luck; the world will suffer.
On another matter, thoughts and prayers to F*r*g* on his split from Rocket Boy who, I understand, is trying to get him to stand down from his own company!
As I understand Biden now accepts this is all due to his pick as Attorney General: Merrick Garland – a man far too cautious for the job in hand. Had he moved to investigate those behind the January 6th attempted insurrection rather than instruct the DoJ to focus only on those who tried to storm the capital, Trump would have been convicted by now, and thus disbarred from running. That said, now Republicans in the US had sunk to the depths of venerating Trump whoever comes after him is likely to be just as bad.
All you say is true but it cannot be forgotten that Trump was democratically elected under the USA Constitution and he won the popular vote by 3,000,000 ballots cast.
Election of Trump is no different than the BREXIT referendum. People were voting for what they THOUGHT they would get from Trump not what Trump is really offering. This is nothing that can be done but for all of this play-out just like there is nothing to be done about BREXIT except to let it play-out.
But we need it forget the truth, and he will try to get people to do that.
That is my point.
The truth is not forgotten and will never be forgotten but no lawsuits against Trump can proceed until he is out of office.
At this point most people are just trying to navigate a plan on how to play the hand they have been dealt.
Working in the construction industry, we are just doing all we can do to plan for why may happen with fallout from Trump’s policies and actions.
Brexit & the election of Trump are very different on one important respect: the benefits we gained from EU membership were complex, obscure & unclear to most of the population at the time of the referendum. That Trump was an insurrectionist who refused to accept the results of any election unless he won it, as well as being a convicted felon and sexual predator, were and are plain matters of fact well known to everyone in the US, if not the world. A third of Americans voted enthusiastically for Trump knowing exactly who he was; another third, with the same knowledge, failed to vote for Harris, the only viable candidate who could keep him from the presidency, implying that they believed he was no worse than her. Fully two thirds of Americans knowingly put a convicted felon, insurrectionist and rapist into the Whitehouse. If the British population had the same knowledge of the consequences of Brexit beforehand, it would never have happened.
From The Washington Post:
A federal judge in New York City on Monday said that Rudy Giuliani was in contempt of court for failing to properly respond to requests for information as he turned over assets to satisfy a $148 million defamation judgment granted to two Georgia election workers.”
Just like Rudy Giuliani, Donald J. Dump will get EVERYTHING that is coming for him and that he deserves, if he lives long enough. It will just be delayed four years.
There is already a rather loud rumble in the air, or at least there is in Florida, of buyer’s remorse felt by those who voted for Trump who are not die hard MAGAts.
I hope you are right
Never forget that the GOP is the avatar billionaire wealth. The joke being that Elon Musk is one who’s really in the driver seat. But if you even casually scrape the surface, you’ll see that what is called the PayPal mafia that involves Peter Thiel and David Sacks, and of course includes Elon Musk all have their cotton picking and fingers mixed in with the next administration. All three of them are South Africa, African wealth with a family history of Nazism. Peter Thiel, in particular as an individual who does not believe in markets, nor in democracy, this is well documented.
Now Thiel may seem to be outside of this until one realizes that he is the political patron of JD Vance, who will be probably the next president of the United States because Trump is not healthy, but also Vivek Ramaswamy. So of the three of them, Thiel actually has his hands most tightly on the levers of power, particularly if Donald Trump should become in capacitated.
Returning to Musk, who I guess is bolstered by his success purchasing the White House that he’s now going on a bit of a post holiday shopping spree, buying out politicians, if not entire nations with his pocket change. The White House turned out to be a lot cheaper than Twitter. Although arguably buying Twitter is an important element of gaining control of the US band may be a few other nations. Not bad for a man who sees himself as destined to be the absolute ruler of the entire planet.
Can we please start having a discussion about the absolute urgent if not existential necessity of antitrust and breaking up this kind of wealth. A man, a single man should not be able to purchase governments around the world.
Agreed
