I will be on The Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2 discussing Natalie Elphicke's defection to Labour and why I am not convinced this is a good idea.
Jeremy is not on. Ross Atkins is doing the programme.

I’ve just read a news report that a YouGov poll now gives Labour a 30 point lead over the Tories, 48% to 18%. That would have been taken before this defection.

Maybe Elphicke is a secret Tory plan to create havoc and disunity within the Labour ranks?!
It shows a lot of what is wrong with how are democracy works, or rather, doesn’t.
Let’s have a few rules, like:
1) Fixed parliaments. Oh, we had that one until the Tories changed it because they like to decide when it happens, so they can fiddle the figures and make unfunded promises in an election year.
2) If a Prime Minister is changed during the fixed term, then a General Election has to be called and held within one month. Tories won’t like this one either, because stabbing the leader in the back is a policy they like to use regularly.
3) If an MP decides to leave a party, they can do so, but they then sit as an Independent MP, and an election for the seat should take place within three months.
None of this ever gets discussed in the media.
Big question is do we as a nation accept from Starmer and his supporters there are no morals in politics? That appears to be the central argument of Starmer supporters on the Guardian’s Cif for his action in allowing the vile Natalie Elphicke into the Labour Party. These ignoramuses have clearly never bothered to think that morality is why we have democracy in the first place!

š Good points about lack of economic policy difference, no Green New Deal, likely for some votes lost via protest/boost for Lib Dem/others
Thanks
I decided to throw as much as I could in
Headline I saw today: “The Labour Party has become the Tory Party’s dustbin!”
Labour as the Tory dustbin.
(Well, ok, it’s Tribune mag…)

Makes sense for Starmer to welcome Tory MP’s into the Labour Party they’ll guard his back from moralistic Lefties!

Natalie Elphicke tried defecting to me first but I said no. Iām taking the trash out, not in.
Interesting viewpoint from a listener of James O’Brien’s on LBC
