The Tories are wholly out of touch with reality

Posted on

Tories really are deluded. Listen to this video:

According to Miriam Cates MP there is no hope for young people because of teaching about:

  • climate change.
  • racial awareness and equality.
  • gender identity.

Together, she says, these are 'cultural Marxism', although she must know that this is an antisemitic trope because that has been pointed out to her many times.

The net outcome is, according to her, a fall in the birth rate.

I do wonder if Cates has ever met a young person?

Most are rightly worried about climate change. Being told by Cates, 'Don't look up', will not change that. They know the catastrophe that might happen within their lifetimes. The evidence is all around them. They do not need to be taught it. But she does not even credit them with the agency to think for themselves.

Most are also vastly more open to the mixed racial heritage of this country, and is virtues and benefits, than my generation were. I thought I was aware about this when I was young, but I went to university in an almost wholly white group of students right across my faculty. Not entirely, but very largely. It was much the same at my school. I just did not have the experience to know want racial identity issues were really all about. I had to learn that later, living in south London, where I finally came face to face with it, big time.  But that is not the experience of the generation now at university, most of whom know that their friends are the very people that Cates and her cohort despise.

And as for gender identity: very large numbers of young people I know define themselves as gender fluid. They love people, not bodies, and may they are much more healthy for that.

I find Miriram Cates' view repugnant.

I find the casual antisemitism within it wholly unacceptable.

And I am certain that what she thinks to be of value - which no doubt means dutiful, loyal work, a mortgage, and unquestioning parenting - are all things young people rightly question the value of. Why wouldn't they when they have got us to the mess we are in?

If she and the opinion she represents are not in parliament in 2025, I will be entirely happy. They do not deserve to be so. And that is not a judgement based on prejudice. It is one based on the ability to think.
