Several people have asked me over the last week or so whether they can have email updates from the blog more often than those sent out now. Currently, they go out once a day, and late in the evening.
I am a bit reluctant to send out emails for every post but that would obviously be a possibility, and we may be able to offer that option for those who want it.
Alternatively, the mail could go out earlier in the day given I rarely post to the blog from late afternoon onwards (it should be apparent from blog activity that I am a daytime and not an evening person, and an early riser at that).
So, your opinion would be appreciated. You can vote twice:
What do you think about the Tax Research email update?
- Leave it as it is (52%, 82 Votes)
- Bring it forward so it goes out in the late afternoon (5pm) rather than much later in the day (25%, 40 Votes)
- I don't know, but show me the results anyway (14%, 22 Votes)
- Offer the option of an update every time you post a new item (9%, 15 Votes)

I’ve just unsubscribed from the emails because I check-in regularly to the blog site and the email rarely alerts me to something I haven’t already seen. However, I’m sure they are useful for people who don’t spend as much time on their iPad as I do!
Just looking at the site is the best alternative
I find it so much easier to use an RSS feed reader browser extension. That way I never miss a post, without having to manually check the site.
I had forgotten all about them
Yes, I use Feedly to see the posts when they are published.
I also have clicked the notification Bell on Twitter, for Richard’s account.
Similarly I prefer to use rss feeds for all my regular sites.
But I have not been able to find an rss feed for this site. 🙁
Richard could you check that it has not been disabled at some point?
This is a bit out of date …

😉
I will check up on that
Andy Moyle has never been so busy for me
aLurker… I think this is the URL I use for Feedly…

@photoMaldives
Thanks for the suggestion. I followed up on it by registering for a feedly.com account and attempting to make an RSS feed for the blog URL.
Not possible without paying to upgrade subscription features. 🙁
‘Upgrade to Pro+ to build RSS feeds’
Definately not a viable proposition just to be able to use a feature that does already come integrated into the WordPress hosting platform.
I will look at this again
I now have your blog website easily accessed, on my laptop, so no more reading your posts and comments a day late, BUT, how about an app for a (i) phone ? I tend to read more on that if I have the chance.
I have no idea what that would cost
But given traffic growth I will ask….
For aLurker, the feeder.co browser extension can automatically detect feeds for a site and create feeds. I can confirm that it’s still working for this site.
For Deborah, there’s a feeder.co app which can do exactly what you need. Just pull the feed to your account from the browser, then you can read each new post in the app.
p.s. I’m not connected to them, just a big fan.
Thanks
I admit I could not see how to load the feeder.co feed, but maybe I should not have been on an iPad
@Richard C
Thankyou for the suggestion.
I followed up on it by registering for a feeder.co account.
On attempting to make an RSS feed for the blog URL I find this to be a paid option.
‘Upgrade to get custom RSS feeds
And more amazing features with Feeder Plus
Upgrade to Feeder plus to build custom RSS feeds. Click to upgrade now’
So next I downloaded and installed the browser extension (for firefox) as you suggested.
I find that it seems to only offer a browser bar button that provides a button menu that takes you to the feeder.co website.
Am I missing something else? Are you a paid user and see more functionality than this?
I just want an RSS feed that I can add to all my other RSS feeds in my feed reader!
p.s. Sorry to take up so much of Richards personal bandwidth on this. 🙁
I am a paid user, but you should still be able to get basic functionality on the free version. Admittedly, I haven’t used Firefox in donkey’s years, but it should be very similar to Chrome.
When you visit the site (or any site with feeds), the extension icon should have a little number on it, to indicate the number of available feeds. Clicking on that should enable you to choose the appropriate feed and subscribe.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thank you Richard C
Logging in to the feeder.co website and using the ‘Search for feeds’ page
enabled me to see these 3 RSS/feed URLs listed there:
