I was reminded of the German word zugzwang this morning. It's a term used in chess that means that you are obliged to take a turn but whatever move you make your situation can only get worse. The only alternative is to resign.
Truss would appear to be in zugzwang.

I love how the Germans create words for the human condition that do not utilise profanities.
A sure sign of an advanced society!!
However, good old Anglo-Saxon language still makes me laugh as well as at the same time confronting me with the awful truth.
Truss and her ‘cabinet’ is plainly FUBAR: F****ed Up Beyond All Recognition.
Language.
It is so meaningful and important.
The word I heard this morning is: “mumpsimus” – A person who obstinately adheres to old ways in spite of clear evidence that they are wrong; an ignorant and bigoted opponent of reform. It also has an obsolete definition: Obstinately conservative. See also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumpsimus
