On a Rory Bremner show of long ago, there was a brilliant skit on the concept of the integrated transport policy (the two Johns) which was to mess everything up so that nothing worked. I give you the integrated health policy of the Johnson administration.
I wish I could find it….
To me clearly the Government wants to create an emergency that will then enable it to very quickly change the way the NHS is ran/delivered because it will put pressure on the unwell and the system itself to accept ANYTHING as long as it makes them better or reduces their fears.
This approach of manufacturing crises in order to manufacture consent is a well-trodden path for Neo-liberals and seems that too many of us still do not understand the manipulative ethos of it.

A text book example of Naomi Klein’s “Shock Doctrine”, IMO
With Javid at health that is entirely possible. As Ian Dunt has put it, ‘moral delinquents’. I’m usually inclined to think cock-up before conspiracy but with this lot it tends to be both. Conspiracies that involve a lot of cock-ups.
The continuing admiration of so many English voters for the Johnson and his cabal continues to amaze me.
Well, here we go. Hospital admissions are increasing exponentially *with the current restrictions*. But we are going to reduce the restrictions anyway. So we can expect the rate of increase to rise, and the doubling time to shorten.
How long, at present rates of increase, before the pressure on the NHS becomes intolerable?
The public data is almost a week old, but there were 563 hospital admissions on Tuesday 6 July. It was 412 the week before, and 274 the week before that. It could be over 800 already today, and over 1000 next week. And 2000 by the end of July and 4000 by mid August, which was the peak in early January.
There were 2731 COVID patients in hospital on 8 July. It was 1916 on 1 July and 1510 on 24 July, It could be over 3000 already and perhaps 6000 by the end of July and well over 10,000 by mid-August.
How long can we go on like this?
We are heading for something very grim
For me this is the epitome of libertarianism. My right to do whatever I want, regardless of the consequences for others. Even if that includes damage to their health or death.
