I really don't wish Trump ill. I've had Covid 19. It was not fun. In fact, I think it was the most ill I've ever felt. I was not hospitalised, but it took a month to feel right again. And I'm not the sort of person to give in to feeling ill.
There is a reason for saying that. I don't wish this disease on anyone. But I do wish for the truth. And Trump has not been saying it.
He's denied the seriousness of Covid.
He's encouraged others to take risks.
He's set the pace by taking risks himself.
He's been indifferent to the suffering and death that Covid-19 has caused.
He's taunted those who have taken precautions.
He's suggested remedies that are not only false, but which have caused real harm.
He's lied about the origin of the disease.
He's created division.
He's argued that behaving in a way likely to result in the infection of others is a human right.
And now he's got it.
And he got a special concoction of drugs to deal with it.
And then they flew him to hospital because he was fatigued and had problems breathing.
Well let me tell you Donald Trump, that's just part of it.
The real question is, though, what is the significance of this? Most especially if, as seems likely, Trump has not got this asymptomatically, but has the full blown thing.
Let's assume, and hope, he gets through it. But let's also hope for some other things too, because it's not unreasonable to do so.
Let's hope he tells the truth now.
Let's hope he admits that this is serious.
Let's hope that he says he was wrong.
Let's hope he apologises for his actions to date.
Let's hope he admits that those wearing masks were just doing so to protect him.
Let's hope he might change his approach to healthcare.
Let's hope he realises that healthcare is a universal right and not just for Presidents.
Let's hope he tells others that this is the case.
Let's hope those others realise that they have been conned by a man who lied.
Let's hope they don't vote for him as a result.
Let's hope there will be change.
One can hope. I do.

I’m sorry to hear you had Covid-19 Richard. I don’t wish any ill-will to Trump, but I doubt very much if any of your ” let’s hope” will come to pass. If he recovers, and I hope he does, and not because I support any of his attitudes in any way, in fact I detest the man, but his arrogance will never let him change his mind about anything.
He has no empathy with people. The man simply doesn’t care what happens to the very people he is supposed to care for, not a jot. So while I hope he make a full recovery, I also hope that he will be defeated in the forthcoming presidential election, although in saying that, I don’t have much faith in Biden either.
We can of course hope for a damascene conversion, but I doubt it will be forthcoming any more than it has for Boris Johnson. Trump will probably recover (most people do) and then boast of his great (some people say it is great, and it is great) American immune system beating the nasty (it really is, so nasty. It’s nasty, folks) Chinese virus.
For example, as expected, Johnson is blaming the jump in cases here in recent weeks on “everyone” becoming complacent and blasé. Well, he and his colleagues might be complacent and blasé, but plenty of people are not, even if government has been condoning flagrant breaches of the rules, or encouraging “mingling” at work school and university, or failing to source proper PPE or get Serco track and trace working properly.
I fear you are right
For someone whose life has been from what I’ve seen anyway, nothing but bullshit (is he really rich or just heavily indebted rich?) I think my dear Richard that you are asking for far too much.
Others have told me that I might be pushing the boundaries of optimism here…..
“Give me a child until the age of seven and he is mine for life”. The appalling stories of Trump family life set him on his way. Can anyone expect a 72 year old to change? Did it work for Boris? Is the Pope a Catholic?
I’m not the vindictive sort, but in this case I am feeling very vindictive. Not because Trump purports to believe a set of conservative ideals I simply don’t agree with in any way. But because he’s actually a self-absorbed bully, who wants to bask in the illusion of greatness–and of course, keep from getting prosecuted for his crimes as long as he is the president. A nice little added perk to the job, eh?
Nope. I don’t wish him well at all. Because if he DOES come through Covid-19, this will be just another chance for him to brag and use his ‘recovery’ (if he even is ill …and I’m not 100% sure of that either) to decry the use of masks, precautions, etc. This will give impetus to the armed and dangerous mob he calls his ‘base’, who think he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. He’s already given them the ‘freedom’ to do untold harm to others. This will ensure more people get sick and die. Will he care? Will he hell.
Nope. Enough is enough. He deserves the worst, and nobody can argue he didn’t bring it on himself.
I can feel the anger
It’s justified
I still don’t wish him ill
