In another sign of the state we're in:
Deviance from the Party line is not allowed.
A threat to the person follows for those who might contemplate it.
This is the world that we now live in with the government that we have.

Totalitarianism has always been a core component of being a Brexiter! The United Kingdom is “union” of four countries. The Brexiter’s are very big on pretending it never was the case despite pressure resulted in devolved assemblies or parliaments for three of the countries to “take back control” in order to determine certain proscribed aspects of living in those countries. In two of these countries there was near enough a majority of 24% and 12% to remain in the EU at the 2016 EU Referendum:-
https://www.bbc.com/news/politics/eu_referendum/results
This means there was no majority consensus of countries in the “union” to leave the EU. One of those countries is Northern Ireland which has a fragile peace held together by a compromise which was based on the realisation the English dominated mainland government couldn’t be thrown out of Northern Ireland nor the Republic of Ireland take the country over.
Nevertheless the people of Northern Ireland are still people who want a voice over laws that affect the way they live particularly economic ones and to that effect they took a decision to remain in the EU. The Johnson government if it had any true respect for democracy would not be attempting to ride rough-shod over them and like the Northern Ireland people themselves seek a compromise solution.
Such a compromise solution might be for UK exporters into Northern Ireland to pay the EU tariffs. A full rebate would be payable at regular intervals if there was no evidence of these exports being smuggled across the border. After all why should they be when Johnson is arguing they’ll only be imported into Northern Ireland to make up this country’s deficiencies in such items.
Normally I am supportive of the BBC. I know many who come here are not.
However this is just crass.
“Critics of the Internal Markets Bill say it could flout international law.” https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54153302
It isn’t “critics”. It isn’t “could”. It is the Government’s own ministers admitting it. Honestly the standard of so called journalism is appalling.
The BBC is finished.
It failed with Saville and it failed over the Iraq war and Blair.
I’d privatise it but then regulate the whole market much better in terms of standards. It would teach many of the overtly middle class idiots who run it a lesson that the BBC is a public service and not a cosy and expensive arena where highly paid Left and Right socialists fall out with each other in public.
The real problem though is the internet. It is totally out of control and I feel it has more of an influence on the BBC than it cares to admit.
Yes Richard – I know – but we don’t have to agree on everything – whether over the BBC or what was the best looking steam locomotive ever built in this country.
Remind me of that loco again?
Could this be against employment discrimination laws? Could they sue the Conservative Party for trying to force them to break the law? It feels like a constructive dismissal case to me.
They are not employed by the Tories…..
No, they are employed by the government, which is what I meant to say.
But certainly anyone at a senior level would stand to lose a ministerial salary, which would have been caused by the government trying to force them to break the law.
The same could be argued with experienced MPs who were likely to lose future income. I appreciate they would keep their job as MPs, but it’s fairly well established that your employer cannot try to force you to break the law. So overlooking them for promotions or discriminating against them for refusing to break the law could also be argued in an employment tribunal.
I admit I don’t know whether MPs have any protection from employment discrimination in the same way most of us do.
They don’t…..
Further along to the Road to Fascism
Farage talking to Bannon Trump’s campaign manager (now indicted for Fraud )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lzJ_8hC-yE&t=36s
Farage then campaigned in Alabama for Roy Moore (who was defeated by the Democrat )
Roy Moore is one of he most unsavoury Republican politicians : supported the birther movement which said Obama was not born in the USA
against same sex marriage, holds strong anti-LGBT views
rejects evolution
said 9/11 was a divine punishment for the decline in religious attendance
hostile to Islam ,
pro-gun, anti-abortion
climate change denial
and faced a string of sexual misconduct accusations
Farage is the man who wants to campaign against Conservative MPs who have integrity.
we are further down the road.
Being known as a Tory who supported this current government in its race to the bottom might not be much of an asset, come the next election.
What does it mean when things like this are done out in the open?
What does it tell us?
You don’t have to be Einstein to work it out.
But at least when things get this brazen, I feel that some sort of crossover point has been reached between legitimacy and illegitimacy and one can only hope is that many others see it the same way.
An MP is not an employee as such they are at the pleasure of the the electorate . they are elected representatives of the people and are meant to represent their constituents . accordingly any attempt to restrict their ability to do so should be challenged as firmly as possible.
There is no excuse for voting in this Bill. If any of them had an ounce of decency in them they would happily leave the Tory party.
The chaos that is about to ensue will be down to every single one of the MPs who voted for this. And it’s the public that will have to suffer the consequences.
Agreed.
This is why Parliament could not deal with BREXIT – because many were all scared for their jobs – and wouldn’t you be if you were to lose at least £80K p.a. plus expenses?
The issue is that the source of the lies and deceit over BREXIT was not recognised soon enough and tackled head on in the name of democracy.
The internet.
Richard
I stated that the Midland Railway Horwich Crabs were a very distinctive and purposeful looking locomotives even with the second hand tenders they were given – they looked shall we say very ‘heterodox’ – a mixture of classic British and even American design (for ease of maintenance to the motion).
You OTOH favoured a class from the Great Northern whose lines to me looked very orthodox for the period.
Given your disdain for orthodox economics and financial practices, I of course forgive you and will debate you POV no further. Enjoy!
I always have a problem with this issue….but try a Royal Claud
Or, Talyllyn from the railway of the same name
