This may be of interest to some who frequent this blog. Radio broadcaster Michael Robinson, with whom I have had the pleasure of working on occasion, has sent me a note saying:
This to let you know that Michael's latest programme:
SHAKING THE MAGIC MONEY TREE
goes out this Monday, 29th January, at 2000hrs on BBC R4
It's repeated on Wednesday 31st January at 1100hrs.
And will be available online after broadcast.
It's about how there really is a magic money tree - which has produced nearly £550bn since the 2008 financial crisis. It investigates what happened to this deluge of cash and why so few of us seem to feel better off as a result.
Producer: Mike Gallagher / Editor: Andy Smith
We all hope you enjoy it!

Front row seat in my kitchen already booked.
A nice little surprise.
Interesting.
Great to have that on the Beeb, even if the timing is a bit late in the day. One to share widely.
Any evidence that any of our politicians might be listening yet?
An interesting programme which could have been made a number of years ago predicting the effects which Andrew Haldane is reluctant to admit and seems to think are justifiable.
I have rarely heard such glib indifference and refusal to accept responsibility for the effects of policy.
It’s not enough to say it’s all the government’s fault we were only doing our job. They’ve only done half the job.
Where’s Alan Sugar when you need him?
“You’re Fired.” (Big pointy finger icon)
I managed to miss it: family health issues still intruding
I was hoping they would mention Mark Blyth’s analogy that QE was like trying to fill a kettle in the kitchen by squirting a fire hose through the letterbox.
🙂
Yes I listened to this last night as I’m studying Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). This just confirmed my studies, we can afford the welfare state as we can never run out of money if we have national sovereign currency . This goes someway to explain the problems with Greece, Spain etc..
The cruel fact is that if anyone says that you run a country just the same way as a household or a business, they are either economically illiterate or just a lair..
True….
