I spoke at a meeting of the APPG for Inclusive Growth in the House of Parliament on Tuesday evening. I was interviewed beforehand, and just after I'd dashed in off the Jubilee Line, by Liam Byrne MP:

Is this the same Byrne who left that infamously stupid note in 2010 after Labour’s election defeat that helped to bring in Cameron and Osbourne?
Do you think that he actually understood what you were saying? Did he seem to be taking it in?
I hope so! For all our sakes!
He still does not understand money I fear
I will try to engage on that….
Well done but I would have preferred some more incisive and robust questioning; a much greater stress test on your arguments so to speak. Byrne seemed to be a good listener but more aggressive challenging of your stance would have enhanced rather than detracted from the interview.

This is one of the many things that I admire about you Richard – the ability to sit down with someone like Byrne and try to talk sense into them.
A clip of me however would have shown me being ejected from the Houses of Parliament for having slapped Byrne across the face for his stupidity about his infamous note and his ignorance of the facts.
As a long suffering public sector worker and someone who has two children at schools that are now cutting budgets so that Free schools and Grammar schools can benefit from Tory policy I hope that you are able to understand me for tarnishing your blog with my rather pugilistic comment.
You are forgiven
But I am not a priest: do not rely on my absolution
I get the hint – thanks.
