I have mentioned I gave an Ebor lecture in York tonight and I have to say thanks to my hosts at York St John's University; I enjoyed myself and it seems at least some of the audience did too from the reaction I got.
What I am afraid I cannot do as yet is publish the text: that will end up in a book in due course.
But I can relate one question and my answer. I had talked about the need to create the political will to close the tax gap and was then asked who must deliver that. My answer to the questioner was simple: you do. That's your job.
And it is. Each of us has to demand the fairer world we want to live in. No one else will do it for us. But we'll all benefit if we do it together, now.

In fact, until the press start to represent the facts as simply as possible so that all can understand, including explaining the actual intentions behind the words of each politician, individuals have no hope of untangling the po and an increasing number will stop voting. In fact, this suits the wealthy who can continue to do as they please while obfuscating all. The gap between rich and poor will simply continue to widen. I believe there is a huge opportunity for the press but they’re all too busy being ‘clever’ to grasp the metal. Democracy fails without a decent press.
You make a simple but fundamental point, Richard, which, from a psychological perspective is actually quite complex because it demands that people start to think for themselves and take responsibility for what goes on around them rather than via the propaganda machines of oligarchy and vested interest. there could be a tipping point, its just a question of how bad things need to get (75% of income spent on housing?)before this happens.
