I’ve said before that I think the ConDems are happy to undermine democracy — and this takes the biscuit for the next stage in their doing so.

An abuse, absolutely – but maybe, just maybe, a pragmatist could see this as a good thing. With next year predicted to be implosion year for the coalition, who would want more ConDem legislation brought before Parliament?
What’s the problem? Having the Queen march into Parliament and read out a prepared speech is dull and pointless to the point that even Dennis Skinner’s annual quip has become institutionalised. Just get on with it rather than waiting for the ceremony.
