The government is running what I consider a pretty mindless PR gimmick where they are asking the public for ideas on how to save money. The web site is here and you have to register. But if you do please search “lvcr” and then add your voice to those asking for the Channel Islands’ VAT abuse to be stopped.
Thanks.

Not only is this ‘Spending Challenge’ website a gimmick – no one is checking postings before publishing them, so the site is filled with malicious attacks on benefit claimaints, asylum seekers, migrants, the elderly, the unemployed, the poor, ethnic groups, etc. For example:
“Re-open the workhouses” for the unemployed, the elderly and asylum seekers. The poster goes on to suggest that “To prevent the problem of generations of poor people, release could be conditional on getting sterilised.”

That may be so but if you allow true democracy then that’s what you get. You can’t edit out the extreme views. I’d be more concerned about items being removed rather than persistence of the whacky ones which anyone with a brain is free to ignore. I heard a rumour that some suggestions that were getting support have been removed because the Condems didn’t like them. Not sure how accurate that rumour is…
