FT.com / UK - Chelsea given two-year signings ban.
I am delighted for these reasons:
1) I have never liked Chelsea FC - dating back to its horribly racist days
2) It shows money does not always win
3) It shows regualtions must be followed - however rich you are
All of which is good news.
And good news for UK football too

This is the way the whole Premiership appears to function:

Once again, the end apparently justifies the means.
I have a hunch that the case against Chelsea is not all it’s cracked up to be.
French employment law doesn’t permit employment contracts for under 17’s so the “pre-contract”, which is an agreement to sign an agreement is probably an unenforceable contract, hence Chelsea would be likely to argue that you can’t induce somebody to breach an unenforceable contract.
If this gets into the Swiss Courts I suspect that lawyers and judges will
take a different view from UEFA and FIFA.
This isn’t just a battle of chequebooks, I suspect that Chelsea’s lawyers (Skadden, Arps the leading NY M&A firm) will have a very good handle on this.
