In August, I mentioned that The National, for whom I write a regular column, had a sale on. Some people missed it, and now it is back:

You can claim the offer here.
It's the best news coverage on many issues you will find anywhere - and it's not just about Scotland. At £20, it has to be worth it.

Got it last time you recommended it, thank you. Pleased I did.
Subscribed when you mentioned it before 🙂
🙂
Very much agreed. Do subscribe, it is an excellent paper.
The National podcast on YouTube is excellent and well worth subscribing to as well.
Subscribed just now. Nice to see an actual digital copy of the National – I couldn’t buy a print one last year in Glasgow when I tried a newsagent in the city centre.
I see Reform UK Ltd are playing a positive role in the SA – all their “MSPs” (the quotes are deliberate) walking out over the indy vote debate. Is there any hope of that becoming permanent? 😉
We can live in hope!
Last time I was in Scotland for a week, the local newsagent stocked it. It was good to see my work in print for a change.
I have been an online subscriber to The National pretty much since it started. It’s the only daily newspaper that I read and my main source of news.
BBC TV I use exclusively as an occasional source of light entertainment. BBC Radio 4 provides me with half a dozen or so programmes a week that are worth listening to – certainly not its news bulletins. I listen to BBC Radio 3 most of the day via BBC Sounds with an initial 10 or 15 minute delay so that I can fast forward through the news bulletins and the irritatingly frequent repeats of usually irrelevant trailers.
I can usually watch Channel 4 News without shouting at the screen
Other than that I limit myself to New Scientist, Prospect (but that subscription’s on a distinctly shoogly peg), the LRB, the New Yorker and the Economist – that last on a “know thine enemy” basis. (Naively I used to assume that the often amused condescension of its reporting style was intended as a parody of the outlook of the British Establishment but I came to realise that the Economist is an essential part of the voice of that Establishment). Oh, and the Edinburgh Minute online. I gave up on Private Eye in response to Hislop’s rejection of independent press regulation in favour of self-regulation which seems to be working about as well as Gordon Browns “Light Touch” regulation of the Finance industry twenty odd years ago – that turned out well didn’t it.
We are not well served in this country with reliable sources of news.
Thank you, and m7ch to agree with.
