I am aware, from emails from several people and the lack of comments on this blog over the weekend, that there was a problem with the blog over the weekend, with many people unable to post comments at all, though some still got through.
I apologise for that. The indefatigable Andy Moyle, who supports the blog on IT issues, found the reason last night. The offending code has been removed, and things should be back to normal this morning.
Please accept my apologies for any frustration that this has caused.

No, I made a mistake! I was wholly to blame, albeit innocently. I used a system in an unexpected way, and it did not like it.

No worries Richard. My only missed comment was to thank you for drawing my attention to a hitherto missed area within the nearly infinite extent of my ignorance – namely that within the context of political economy the noun “rent” has a different meaning from its common or garden usage.

Hi! from another Linux fan (Linux Mint xfce64 zena) on a permanent steep learning curve and deeply appreciative of FOSS peer support forums which are truly amazing.
My comment may have been lost in the post, so I’m doing a very abbreviated summary:
Can we all start badgering our local journalists, writing to our “favourite” newspapers, and asking our MPs,
“Do we have the actual resources to do it?” instead of “the payment question”?
And maybe a FOI request… for the Resource Audit that a good government should have done. The ONS used to hold all the details for the local authorities with a bit of digging: who’s employed, who’s unemployed, and what jobs are advertised. I don’t know if that still holds.
