I feel it's only appropriate that I make one of my first posts on this blog this morning a note of thanks to everyone who subscribed as a consequence of my appeal for funding, made yesterday.
I admit that I made that appeal with some trepidation because it feels quite difficult to ask for money for something that I want to do, and which I want to expand, even though I know that at present, if it does develop, that will result in a loss being made.
I think that around 90 people donated yesterday, most with new monthly subscriptions, and I cannot express how much I appreciate that. There are two reasons.
One is that the money will help, and the other is that it simply feels like a massive vote of confidence in what I am doing, and in itself, that feels really important because everyone needs such a boost every now and again. Being a blogger and social media creator is quite an isolated activity in some ways: it does feel good to think that it matters to some people, and I believe it is appropriate to share that.
So, very straightforwardly, thank you, most sincerely, because I really appreciate the support that has been offered.

Hi Richard. Thank you for the tireless work that you do. Your video today on equality of opportunity struck a chord with me today (not that any of your previous ones hadn’t) as your story of you and your brother’s separation at the 11plus dramatically changed both your opportunities is exactly what happened in my family. I think I’ve been a bit of a campaigner in different ways all my life and I particularly love your notion that democracy shouldn’t be a spectator sport. Thank you once again.
Thanks
Totally fab, that’s what you are Richard.
Your commentators are pretty fab too.
Truly disappointed by your “Thank You” response, Richard.
No pictures of birds, or other wildlife from you Sunday morning walk. And no mention of COFFEE!!!!!
I shall be cancelling my subscription forthwith (as they always say when people write complaining about Private Eye covers).
Irony?
Give me time…..
Out birdwatching now….
You’re welcome, but obviously my donations will be withdrawn once you start to rely on them, unless, of course, you start saying what I want you to say. Isn’t that how it works!
In Private Eye, I gather it is.
[…] It's been a busy weekend, not least because of the generosity of so many people here. […]
Another thought…. I, and perhaps others, would also be willing to help support specific projects. Projects that at the moment cannot be afforded. Such projects I suggest would need to be explained, have clear objectives and the effectiveness monitored and assessed before moving on to the next request. Could be done via gofundme. Again, just ideas. Could all get a bit too cumbersome
Interesting idea, but at the moment I am not sure there is any project big enough to justify that. But thanks.
