I have posted this draft petition on the UK government petitions website this morning:
You will not be able to see the petition on that site as yet because it needs at least five supporters before it will be considered for publication. At the time in the morning that I am publishing this, I have not secured that number as yet. You can however support the draft petition by following this link. You can then sign it.
Only twenty people can sign at this stage - but please do have a go, just in case.
The petition is deliberately soberly worded. I want to give it the best chance of being accepted.
Update at 7.10am:
Thanks to those who have supported this call. Let's see what happens now.
In the meantime, further signatures aren't required, so please wait for an update.
Thanks for reading this post.

Great minds think alike 🙂
Now let’s see if they approve it. If not we know that all hope of representative democracy in this country – as we used to know it – is at an end.
In the mean time, 38degrees has a petition up already. Those who approve of that organisation (I don’t) may wish to sign…

38Degrees has also started a petition on the same subject, which I have signed. The man is a convicted felon and shouldn’t be allowed in the country anyway, right?
There is no reason why people cannot sign the 38 degrees petition (which started before the Kelinskyy ambush) as well as any others that spring up.
Without the “showbiz”/publicity/entertainment facets, what might be the consequences for regular people of state visits?
Disruption
Indication of our alignment with a fascist state
Cost. Someone has to pay for it and it certainly won’t be Charles Windsor.
It is strange that Canada’s head of state, King Charles III, is offering a state visit to one who has expressed a desire to turn Canada into “the 51st state”. No wonder that Canadians are not best pleased about this UK state visit!
Agreed, entirely
At this point I see some argument for saying that Vance once again showed he doesn’t have the maturity for being VP having triggered the pile-on, and for him to be impeached. Some Republican politicians may be more amenable to that.
Impeaching Vance would still be a warning shot to Trump that he’s not invulnerable. It would also mean that removing Trump wouldn’t just be putting In Vance.
If impeaching Trump is still not something that the Republican politicians will support, even now, there is still the question of what they can be persuaded to support which would have some effect.

I think this is also gaining signatures quite rapidly
I suggest we give it a few days and see where the 3 (so far) petitions get to. Currently all 3 are finding different audiences, so hopefully the total will be high.
I signed all the current petitions and will sign Richard’s when it’s up and running. I hope they’ll be effective and that the invitation will be withdrawn. The only useful thing about Trump’s behaviour is that it could be a wake up call for the people, of the US, the UK and Europe, who put a high value on democracy and are willing to stand up for it.
Thanks
I did exactly the same. Expect lots of others have done. If the petitions office agrees that one will be permitted, I guess they will choose the one that is most easily rejected by Parliament even though it is likely to exceed 100,000 signatures. In 2017, a similar petition nearly reached 2 million signatures. Good luck to whoever has their petition accepted.
The link doesn’t seem to go anywhere that enables me to sign up
After 20 people have signed the government closes it before deciding to let it proceed. Sorry….
As a Mr Rob Welsford has pointed out on FB, Balmoral (assuming the petitions don’t succeed) is perhaps the only place in the UK that DT might get away with visiting. Because a motorcade in London would be drowned out by booing louder than a Vulcan jet at full throttle. And the presidential vehicles receive more eggs than Sainsbury’s.
It says it might take weeks to consider the petition as they are very busy. Then you have the time to gain enough signatures. I hope I am wrong, but I suspect by the time this has an effect, the excuse will be that preparations for the visit are too advanced to cancel!
Probably
I’ve signed the 38 degrees one already, and will be signing a few more from groups like The European Movement, and interestingly, Open Britain, who have a petition to the Commons speaker not to allow Trump to address Parliament if, god forbid, the lying moron Trump gets his state visit.
I have mixed feelings about cancelling the state visit. It is unequivocably a clear message to the Trump regime that the country is against him and his dismissal of Ukraine amounting to what seems to be a fellow travelling with Putin. However it would give Trump the ability to act as a victim. My preference would be for him to come here and be met with eggs and deafening booing or alternatively, completely empty streets along his route to both Balmoral and his golf course(assumimg he won’t be in London).
The visit should definitely be cancelled if he comes here it will show we agree to what he has done his behaviour was disgraceful for a world leader and in my mind performed like a dictator ie Putin!
