Poor old Boris Johnson. All he ever wanted was a picture of himself in the White House as Prime Minister and first he was forced to have a meeting with the Vice-President and wear a mask, as if he was not allowed onto the main set without proving his worth.
Then he had to meet Biden and not Trump, who he would have very much preferred.
After that, he was told he could not have a trade deal as despite all his fawning in the AUKUS deal we are not a US priority. Those who do not want chlorinated chicken should be very relieved.
And then he was told to keep his hands off Northern Ireland and that he should stick to the protocols he has signed, which he now deeply regrets and wants to change.
Biden is deeply pro-Irish. What Johnson ever thought he was going to win from him when Johnson is so reckless with the future of that island is very hard to imagine. But at least Biden stuck to his guns, and Johnson looks like he will come home pretty much empty-handed.
It was all meant to be so easy post-Brexit. The reality is that it is anything but. And sometime this message will eventually sink in with everyone except, perhaps, the rump that is now called the Tory party.

The “easy Brexit” lie has sunk in ever since Theresa May said “Brexit means Brexit” and refused to stay in the Customs Union and Single Market
The UK can no longer be trusted internationally after the sabotaging of the French contract for diesel-electric submarines that France had arranged with Australia. Clearly, the Tories are desperate if they think that becoming subservient to North American or Pacific region trade deals will be any better than those with Brussels and Strasbourg. Sabotaging the Good Friday Agreement will also completely lower the credibility of Britain’s standing in the world.
Yes, its such a shame, but unfortunately as that tub of lard has no morals, or shame, he will come back and lie for Britain to spin that the deal, whatever that turns out to be, is the best ever. Meanwhile in reality land, millions are facing stark choices, heat, or eat, ( If food can be found) The sunny uplands that exist in the Tory party’s fevered imagination seem further out of reach than ever. Not that it will bother a party of millionaires, most who probably have shares or seats on the boards of the energy suppliers.
How can the people of Britain, well, except the devolved nations, continue to vote for this crowd? What now for N.I? What delights will “The Clown” foist upon them?
When the second Scottish referendum happens, hopefully before we are all dead, we, at least, have a potential way out of this, if, and to be honest, it’s a big if, we have the courage to vote to leave. I fervently pray I don’t waken up the morning after to the same result as 2014.
From what the blogosphere is saying it looks to me as if Aus wanted out of the French sub deal as the French were not delivering and Aus couldn’t afford it. US and U.K. helped Abbot out of a political predicament, getting past the next election in Aus by lying to South Australia they will get valuable manufacturing jobs at some point in the future. This is all bait and switch. There will be no sub deal as such. US will get a sub base in Aus to operate old submarines for longer and Aus may get to crew them. What UK gets out of it I don’t get. Maybe some kind of Anglo sphere old pals act for Boris to crow about while not getting a trade deal with US. Posturing to look as if they can contain China? It’s possible in a fit of pique the French will now spike the EU Aus trade deal and Boris will think that’s a win for U.K.
Whatever, winding up both the worlds biggest economy and the EU and showing we are Biden’s poodle all at the same time is a dangerous game to play for “Global” Britain.
What do you mean, Australia couldn’t ‘afford it’? Couldn’t afford to wait? They could certainly afford to pay for it. No problems there.
Good work Mr Biden to try and keep the GFI agreement alive, dont hold your breath though – Boris is quite capable of reneging tomorrow.
As for David Webb wondering why people continue to vote Tory. Well in my leafy suburb they all vote Tory because their unearned house price inflation is very moreish. This is anecdotal, but pretty consistent over a number of years asking. Once I asked if any of them, 5 in the pub, had voted Labour ? Three said they had last voted Labour in the nineties after John Major had crashed the property market in the early/mid nineties, and prices had not recovered much.
This was the primary reason, and remains so. Blair – who he! Climate armageddon – woss that!!

My son and his non British wife – (living and working in England for 20 years), further to the nasty Johnson/Patel foreigner rhetoric, have now permanently left England to take up residency and nationality in Italy. Just what has my country become??

Johnson’s track record is of lying to and deceiving in every field of life. As an individual to his wives/girlfriends, as a journalist, to his friends/colleagues, as a politician and as a ‘diplomat’. I’ve no doubt that foreign governments know that and trust neither him nor his government. I heard a senior French official refer to him live on TV as ‘that liar’ when he was made foreign secretary.
What is baffling and depressing is that so many British, English in particular, continue to support him and that his party, members and MPs seem to love him.
