Trump posted this on his social media account yesterday afternoon:

What to think about that?
As I suggested in a post yesterday, there must have been a reason why US Defence Secretary, Pete Hesgeth, sacked the senior US army general late last week.
Is it because of what is planned for tomorrow?
Are war crimes going to be committed?
If you are not worried, or even scared, why not? There are mad people in charge of weapons of mass destruction that they appear intent on using. If that's not enough to make you worried, what is?

I understand that tRump has thrown/wasted/burnt $30bn of bombs and missiles @ Iran. So far. The imbecile will likely send in the B52s (obvs with support from the rogue state of Israel). I wonder where they will fly from – Diego Garcia?
Will the imbecile use nukes? Difficult one. Is tRump insane. Yes. So maybe. Or will the USA allow its poodle Israel to “test” a nuke? Will that give Russia a rationale to “test” a nuke in Ukraine? Or North Korea – South Korea. But don’t worry, the USA has checks & balances – doesn’t it?
One check & balance it does not have is stopping senile old buggers from being in positions of power be it tRump, Pelosi, and a pack of old buggers in congress/senate – sitting & doing bugger all for deacades – this has got us to where we are. & it ain’t so diff in other countries – albeit with less terrible consequences – Hungary? Mutty-Merkel in Germany? etc etc – career politicos that know nothing else.
I have thought since the start of this “war” that the temptation to make a name for himself with nukes of some sort will prove too much for Trump.
Keir Starmer is now allowing B52s to operate from RAF Fairford.
Israel is no poodle. But it has overreached this time. My fear is that it will reach for a nuke and I don’t know how that could be prevented.
Merkel was a titan compared to Merz. She believed in diplomacy. She talked to Putin.
Using the nuclear option does not seem sensible to me even though ‘sense’ is in limited supply in this conflict. If the idea is to exploit Iran, Iran has to be in some sort of usable condition afterwards by the victors. Radioactivity flowing across the pacified areas of the region is a really bad look too for the friendlies there when some of them own a lot of your economy already (think Saudi Arabia).
Having said that, the ‘c’ word seems dominant at the moment – ‘crusade’ – and the religiosity flowing through it – the ‘end of days’ death worshippers – reeks of nihilism – but is it just rhetoric?
There are lots of ways to win a conflict and already I bet Israel and the U.S. have assets in Iran already. Fingers crossed.
Feelings? Ones more of resignation to be honest – we can see how all of this has come about in the history of Neo-liberalism and the United States who assumed a mantle of leadership of the free world that it was never ever in any fit state to assume. Europe can only blame itself for that. The U.S. used WWII to push aside the UK, grabbed all its assets (and more) and made sure it had geographical control of all the new institutions for good measure. I’m afraid ‘America First’ is not new, not at all. But my thanks to crude, brutal Trump for the revelation of the U.S. for what it REALLY is.
BTW: Who got America right? Why China, of course. And we should do the same. The U.S. should be kept at arms length henceforth.
To your conclusion: you are right
What worries me is the number of otherwise intelligent thinking people who won’t step in and stop Trump or Netanyahu. There is no doubt that Trump’s mental state makes him totally unfit to rule. People close to him know this, yet do absolutely nothing. At last other leaders are starting to speak out, but from the US government, silence.
If something awful is planned do we pray for an insurrection within the military services? Unlike the IDF, they are not totally indoctrinated and know this war is wrong and Trump is deranged.
I fear there are enough evangelical maniacs in the military to ensure any political intervention by a responsible faction would become a very messy business.
I see that Hegseth, is labelled by Robert Barnes who has a lot of connection with the Trump administration ( as per a recording shown in Naked Capitalism yesterday), as Hegsdeath. Plus Barnes made clear that the USA is committing war crimes in Iran and every politician who promotes them and armed service members who execute the orders faces prosecution. But he also said that the principle of prosecution will only come into effect if there is the will to prosecute.
Might the American 25th Amendment (Section 4) offer a faint, but significantly unlikely glimmer of hope?
“The 25th Amendment is intended for cases where a president is physically or mentally unable to discharge their duties.”

We get Vance
I found that message by Trump, and especially his last four words, the most offensive outpouring of any world figure I can think of. An ignorant, selfish man opposed to God and his fellow men. The Pope sees him for what he is. Why doesn’t everyone? Denunciation, by UK leaders and US citizens, is well overdue.
Happy Easter.
Trump appears to think he is on a crusade. If he launches a massive attack on civilian infrastructure in Iran, does he think they will be unable to respond?
it seems so
I think there will be a rude awakening
Unfortunately for the innocent lives to be lost, families and potential destroyed, I tend to agree Richard. Although I think ‘rude awakening’ may very well be a gross understatement.
I’m worried. This is not the first time Trump has suggested Hell will reign down on Iran, and when he mentioned it last time a nuclear inferno sprung to my mind. Hegseth is a rabid dog of war, it’s clear from his press briefings he is unhinged, and I find the calls to religion in his and Trump’s speech, particularly worrying, as if they are co-ordinating their reasoning for doing the unthinkable and providing God as the ultimate decider – in order to abrogate their responsibility. They will call it the first strike in a new Crusade, and blame Iran’s leader’s for bringing it on themselves.
The thought of seeing and hearing Trump and Hegseth in the media after a nuclear strike I find sickening, they turn my stomach already. I can imagine Hegseth gloating and supplying a sick joke about delivering an Easter egg present. I hope my imagination does not become reality.
“Glory be to God”?
I think he may regret saying that. That is what I call “golden statue” territory.
There remain legal constitutional options for those with any moral sense or human decency.
The 25th amendment, invoked by Trump’s Cabinet, to bring in the men in white coats, to take Trump away. That relieves the crisis slightly but Vance & Project 2025 still proceed.
The legal right of military personnel to disobey illegal orders.
The obligation of allies esp those in NATO, to withdraw all support, use of bases, radar, intelligence, etc and implement sanctions. Failure to do this = complicity in war crimes. Leaders have been meeting recently in preparation for this, so their INaction will indicate their deliberate choice to be complicit.
The problem is that decent morally courageous people are in short supply in the corridors of power nowadays.
It is at the point when our own resources/options are exhausted, that we discover resources we hadn’t previously been aware of.
You make a good point about the lack of courage in other world leaders. We know all we need to know about Starmer, Carney, Albanese, Macron, Metz, and the rest by the fact that they continue to support a mad American in charge of nuclear weapons. In the Uk case, active participation in the war. It’s hard to think there is a future.
Macron has spoken to some extent. The European leaders should be getting together and taking a united public position on Trump’s madness. He (and/or the powerful people around him) can be shifted, as when Trump praised UK soldiers when he came under criticism for disrespecting their sacrifice in Afghanistan.
This illegal war in Iran is the result of Israel’s bid for hegemony in the Middle East with the deluded and egotistical Donald Trump providing the means. I’m still waiting for Prime Minister Keir Starmer to condemn it and the resulting war crimes.
It should be noted that not even a year ago the administration cut an office dedicated to reducing civilian causalities and made training dedicated to the laws of war optional and at a commander’s discretion. Legal Watchdogs have been fired. This is the “Warrior Ethos” Hegseth wants, a war of blood, upon blood, upon blood.

“Revelation of the US for what it really is…”
And of a few other things too. That is one of the few good things coming out of this mess – eyes being opened – in an earlier post I referred to “wolves in sheep’s clothing” suffering wardrobe malfunction.
But at what a cost!
I wish the UK Government would divorce itself completely from the US no matter how painful it may be. In the long run, history will judge our actions harshly, just as other nations will be very unforgiving in the more immediate future.
Why on earth is King Charles going there? No good will come of it.
[…] sense of anxiety that I feel, which I explored in my early-in-the-day post concerning Trump's threats issued with regard to a Monday deadline, was increased by his […]
In addition to everything else about this dreadful post, I have to laugh at the homophonic mixup.
We’ll need to change the National Anthem in time for the State Visit. “Send him Victorious: Happy and Glorious: Long to rain all over us: God Save the King!” But I’m not at all sure that everyone will agree on who actually is the King in that situation.
Threatening to” bomb Iran back to the stone age” called forth a reminder as to where Iran was while the US was still in the stone age…an influential, advanced society.. maybe Trump needs that reminder..! yesterday I understand that Iran let a French tanker through the straits. Rather that following Trump’s remark that “Europe should go and get their own oil.. just take it” it would be an interesting development if Iran would just start allowing a few European tankers through…while continuing to block the US, every day of high oil prices spells electoral difficulty for this awful president in November ( unless he’s managed to fix the elections beforehand.. which he is trying to do)
Its time for the world to stop cozying up to the US and to get together to thwart their power as long as its being used to hurt and destabilize everyone else. International law needs to be resurrected by all the other players and applied to Israel and the US for openly violating accepted law. Economic sanctions against both of them need to be applied and the same rules that were applied to Iran’s so called nukes need to be applied to Israel’s… who have NEVER had to meet any kind of inspections.
Another cynical but equally likely scenario I read somewhere on the internet is that these extreme threats of violence (with the potential fear / hint of a nuke in the mix) will continue right up until a deadline that happens to be 30 minutes after the markets open. Massive sell off then Trump makes his 13.00 ET statement with another load of made up bull about a fantastic huge peace deal with Teran. Those in the know make a fortune again..
What I don’t understand is how European leaders in particular seem to think that they can still have rational discussions with somebody who is clearly completely out of control.
China has seen how to benefit themselves from this situation. We underestimate China to our peril.
The US / Israel have already bombed Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power station four times …
It seems they have not.
They have symbolically struck the vicinity
