I am staying in North Berwick tonight before going to Edinburgh for the Scottish economics festival tomorrow. That's about another 3o miles. This place looks great for birdwatching and walking- and that's the plan after tomorrow.

This is a fun spin-off of tomorrow's event.
And, finally, I feel over Covid and have my energy back.

Pleased to hear you’ve recovered from Covid.
I walked up the coast from Berwick recently – round this time of year – and did find it great for birdwatching, not least for Cormorants.
See you tomorrow, I’ll be in the audience, looking forward to it 🙂
It looks beautiful. Enjoy the recuperation time there after a busy day tomorrow. Northumberland is stunning and never feels crowded.
This is East Lothian, in Scotland, about 60 miles from Berwick on Tweed. It feels like a good place for a few days, James and Thomas are holding the fort.
Make the most of it Richard. East Lothian is beautiful and one of my favourite areas for cycling in the nearby Lammermuir Hills
Because of energy shortages, non-essential travel should be stopped – Richard Murphy 19/3
I’m currently travelling to an economics festival – Richard Murphy 20/3
im guessing that you are above your own rules?  Or that your definition on ‘essential’ heavily favours what you want to do?
The commitment already existed.
And my average mileage is 6,000 a year, which is very low.
And you re trolling.
Well that means you are driving about 2000 miles a year less than my wife and I so you are not doing badly
If that is the best you can do Nicola, then you might as well go back to bed.
Nice pictures. Is it a location worth visiting?
Craig
First impression, definitely yes.
A boat trip around the island to see the gannets is a must.
That is part of the plan
I hope the event goes well.
I know North Berwick a little, as it’s where the manufacturers of my campervan are based.
The coast is the main attraction, along with excellent fish and chips, but the steep pull up North Berwick Law is well worth it, and I’ve spotted herons and various wildfowl in the small wetland at its base.
And if you have transport then Aberlady Bay a few miles west should be good for birds although I think it’s maybe a bit late for the enormous flocks of geese that over-winter there.
Thanks. I will be looking when economics is over.
I don’t know what I envy the most, staying in North Berwick or having a discussion with Warren Mosler, in fact you’ve peed me right off! It’s definitely one of the best places in the UK and I’ve stayed there many times to play golf and watch The Open at Muirfield with my late Father. It’s his birthday today as well, he would’ve been 94.
Sorry!
But not a lot!
