The Royal speciality: creating PR disasters

Posted on

I think I should make it clear when posting this copy of a Tweet that I am a member of Republic, which posted it, but apart from paying a small subscription, I take no part in it. It does, though, make it clear why Republic capture the zeitgeist, why the royals' only special talent these days is in creating PR  disasters, and why we should all really want them gone:

Prince William is, quite bizarrely, taking on the role of British trade envoy vacated by Andrew Mountnatten-Windsor, and his first visit is to people closely associated with the killers of Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

You literally could not make up a worse framing for the royal family than this right now. Do they have a self-destruct button? It would seem they do.
