The National: speaking truth to power

Posted on

I am proud to write for a newspaper - The National - that puts this on its front page.

Most of the media is ignoring the continuing devastation being perpetrated in Gaza by Israel.

Much of it mindlessly reproduces press statements from the Israeli government, which are intended to be deliberately misleading.

The National does not do that. Under the leadership of its exceptional editor, Laura Webster, for whom it is a pleasure to work, they have taken the courageous stance of calling out abuse and naming those responsible.

When I am asked whether the change is possible, I always say that it is.

When I'm asked for evidence that a difference exists, this is the sort of thing that I present.

In a world where compliance is required, uniformity is demanded, and dissent is punished, we must have a paper like The National that is willing to speak truth to power.
