The Guardian reports this morning that:
Donald Trump has said he is expecting to travel to to the UK in September for his second state visit.
King Charles is preparing to host the US president and first lady as the UK government tries to bolster transatlantic ties after Trump imposed a series of tariffs on trading partners.
So, a hereditary king, whose role necessarily implies official endorsement of eugenic principles within the UK government, is going to host a fascist President who is intent on the destruction of democracy for personal gain, all to further the supposed political ambitions of a man so sycophantic that he has abandoned any concept of personal identity, if he ever had one.
What could go wrong?
Definitely something to look forward to.

I had hoped that the invitation to Trump for a state visit would be quietly allowed to wither. Diplomats could ‘struggle’ to find a suitable date. But no, apparently Starmer will make another “tough decision” and welcome the Mango Mussolini with open arms.
I’m ashamed of the message this will send to the rest of the world.
“I had hoped that the invitation to Trump for a state visit would be quietly allowed to wither.”
Was NOT going to happen as Trumps lives to be received at Buckingham Palace and ride in a Golden State Coach.
Trump wants KCIII’s job! LOL! OL!
Like a hole in the head.
According to reports he’s to be invited to Windsor Castle. Looks like Balmoral and/or Dumfries House maybe out of the plan.
Good!
Too dangerous to go there.
Blow. I’d already ordered my T Shirt and poster with “What Janey Godley said” with her welcoming photo printed on them. 🙂
🙂
That’s a shame. We verminous Scots would have had warm welcome for him
Isn’t Windsor on the Heathrow flight path?
How sad that he won’t get the ‘warm’ welcome in Scotland (inspired by Janey Godley and others) that he would have undoubtedly received.
Completely agree on the ludicrousness of a hereditary king hosting a fascist dictator. But even politically, I question the logic(?) of this. We don’t appear to be making much headway with the trade deal (quite the opposite as it looks more likely we will capitulate on regulation of content, data privacy, etc.), the messaging from the US regarding Ukraine is completely at odds with the stance that Europe / UK are trying to promote…and I could go on and on.
We would need a very different and massively improved PM to gain even one iota of benefit from this. I suspect it will simply be a media circus that further benefits Trump and gives him wholly undeserved credibility…and, at a time that many Americans are beginning to realise the nightmare situation Trump is creating for them.
Meloni has invited him to Rome. The poor old Pope will be pressured to meet him. Last time His Holiness looked quite disenchanted.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at Buckingham Palace as the arrangements are discussed
I wonder if some existing medical conditions might flare up
Perhaps Prince Andrew will have to be dragged out to welcome him
Has anyone told the Palace? I haven’t heard any official announcement. Cat out of the bag?
Word on the Royal Gossip Street is that Kate & Wills cannot stand Trump.
What a spectacle eh?
No thanks.
A convention of unaccountable power and wealth at our expense – Great!
The obvious thing to have done was include the visit as part of the trade talks
Yes you’re welcome to come Mr President, but the digital services tax stays and there are no tariffs on UK car exports. There must be a few others.
That might have concentrated some minds in the White House
Great, I can’t wait! It’s been a long time since I felt strongly enough to go on a big demo!
The King usually take September as holiday. The late Queen traditionally spent the month in Balmoral with a few guests invited here and there but no real business. I’m not a Royalist but give them a break .
Why?
They’re eugencists.
I was thinking of the current illness in the Windsor family. Wasn’t Keynes a eugenicist? Not that it impacts on his economic theories.
I have no idea…
Trumps recent colonoscopy was mentioned in Have I Got News For You. Quick as a flash, Paul Merton rejoined “They found Starmer up there” – first time I’ve laughed in weeks.
That was very funny
