This was in the US Patriotic Millionaires email sent to me this morning:
A new report from our allies at Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) reveals that 150 billionaire families have already donated a combined $1.9 billion to presidential and congressional campaigns and PACs in this election.1 That is $700 million, or 60%, more than what 600 individual billionaires spent at this same time during the 2020 election.2
The majority of that money -- $600 million -- went to electing Donald Trump, a direct threat to democracy. Trump received more than 3 times the amount of billionaire donations than Vice President Kamala Harris, a 75%-25% split.3
The future of our country cannot be decided by 150 billionaire families. We all have a say in this democracy and what we want this country's future to look like, but that's going to require us all to get out and vote for pro-worker, pro-democracy, pro-tax champions who will make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share and hold corporations accountable for their tax dodging, price gouging, and treatment of workers.
I can add little to that, but I did think it was worth sharing.

It certainly confirms our worst fears doesn’t it?
And I don’t think it is much different here to be honest in terms of how the rich bend government to their will helping I think to support and nurture the STP.
I think things will really kick off this time in the U.S.
The only way to avoid bloodshed is to give in. But give in to what? A fascist credo that will slam the door shut in the face democracy? Perhaps forever?
Fascism means death. Death seems to be abundant at the moment – lurking everywhere.
Textbook definition of an oligarchy?
The sentiments – get out & vote are worthwhile.
The question not asked is: at what point does having money/wealth make you a danger to the society that enabled you to obtain that wealth? I’d suggest that an upper limit of £50m – big bag of money – gets you a nice yacht, couple of homes, couple of mistresses (boy toys if that is your style)…….or if you are a nice person – help various good causes, But not enough to significantly influence elections. Won’t happen but it would strengthen democracy if it did.

Progressive? well once you have your £50m bag – 100% tax seems reasonable to me – is this “progressive” dunno – certainly keeps the rich rabble in line – obvs we would have more of em).
Those that think otherwise – I need only point to Musk, or a plethora of others (Epstein was only able to indulge his prociivities due to wealth, ditto – Maxwell and various others – the list is long and does no credit to the wealthy). Most people handle wealth very badly.

Ever since “Citizens United”, the court case that allowed unlimited money into elections the US electoral system has been totally corrupted by . I don’t actually know how the US still has the gall to call itself a democracy.
Surely the big question is, who administers the restriction?
