Most days, I wake up brimming with ideas on things to write.
And most days, that is exactly what I want to do.
This morning is not most days. There are some ideas. Most will take a little development. Others might provoke more comments than I might have time for today - and yesterday was a challenge as I was out almost all day.
So, at least for now, today is a rest day. Batteries need recharging. Thoughts need to be mulled over. Warblers need to be listened to and watched (a most glorious female blackcap yesterday - which, as if to evidence the male-dominated world we live in, have a glorious brown cap - it's their male partners who have the blackcap and are not nearly so good-looking, in my opinion).
If things change, I will be back. But for now, I'm hitting the go-slow button.
Thanks for reading this post.

Good for you Ruchard. Well earned.
The arrogance – I’m so important that even when I’m not going o write anything I have to wrote something to tell my loyal disciples.
Self awareness lost at sea?
You do know that you do not have to read this blog, don’t you?
The arrogance is also all yours. What do you think it is that entitles you to be rude to me here? Self-importance on that scale is staggering.
Richard,
Thanks for the update. Enjoy your day.
John Blake, thank you for the short post wot you wrote (©️ E.Wise) it tells us all we need to know about you, whereas Richard’s blog is always awaited with anticipation for the insights he provides for us – some of which we don’t necessarily agree with but which are always thought provoking. Maybe you should take a day off from being an ar*e now and again.
🙂
I went out for a walk in the woods this morning and saw a red squirrel. That was a nice start to the day. Have a good weekend.
Ffs, chum – not arrogance, but care, both for himself and his readers.
Richard knows full well we worry when he falls silent – is it long Covid? Accident? Arrested by our increasingly Fascist government? Stroke from overwork?
Richard signals he’s taking a break so a) we don’t worry and b) he’s not inundated with anxious messages asking how he is, and what’s happening.
As a sufferer from blood cancer & often do the same, and send out a Round Robin, because it costs in emotional and physical energy (I can’t tell you HOW much!) to have to go into (the same) detail responding to every kind enquiry.
Let him lapse unto silence = SO restorative!!
Thank you Andrew
I needed a day off more than I realised
I think the Guardian is doing it’s best to avoid being critical of the Labour Party which is why there’s nothing to respond to. Most voters I think have accepted that the corruption stench from the Tory Party is now a given. So we’re in for a false dawn for the rest of this year or at least till autumn. The UK very much a country asleep!
Thank you Richard for your writings, which I enjoy reading, although, I sometimes disagree. I felt prompted to reply, as my thoughts are that humans, can and do disappoint, as I’m sure do I, but nature, never does, and yes, female Blackcap is one smart bird.
It truly is
And thank you
I have watched your videos on YouTube recently. Sound, logical reasoning. I thank you for taking the time to put the in the public domain. Enjoy recharging your batteries. The country needs your wisdom.
Although I read you daily and have learned a great deal, I have never replied. During this day’s pause from you, Richard, may I take this opportunity to thank you for the knowledge that you generously share, your passion, your humanity and your caring for the common wo/man. And your Audoban-esque insights.
Thank you
And your comment gave me something to think about
Richard, your output is so prolific, interesting, and (for me) educational that I am amazed by the energy and time that you spend on it. It’s good that you share your personal feelings and interests other than MMT and related topics (the bird-watching, and your obvious love of nature are especially interesting!) . Keep up the great work. It’s totally reasonable that you should take some personal time off. Make sure you do it as and when you feel the need. We all know you will return when you are refreshed!
Thanks
Good idea!
“Sabbath” or whatever you care to call it, is important. And not only physically but holistically: a silent strengthening of roots, not always pushing out fruits.
(Note to self…)
