I felt this worth sharing. I trust Robert Reich as a reliable source of opinion:

Interesting comment from a former Trump aide

There could I suppose be either a grossly incompetent dictatorship or someone behind him to pull the strings if he wins
Just remember that Bolton was hired and then fired by Trump, so he hates him; and Bolton is a warmonger (which was perhaps why Trump fired him, oddly enough). Not to say that Bolton’s remarks in this case may not be perceptive…
Dreadful as is to say this – but Reich is spot on. All 5 steps are already there – promised in plain sight.
Quitea chilling.vidoe. You can see these trends developing in the UK with the anti-immirgant propaganda, Rwanda etc and the clamp down on climate and anti-genocide in Palestine protests ts to name but a few similar trends in righ- wing Tory thinking and practice.
Terrifying – and convincing. The extracts from his speeches turn the blood cold.
I have thought for some time that Western civilisation is approaching a crisis point. The deliberate weakening of the postwar bulwarks against either fascism or theocracy have been systematically weakened, largely due to neoliberalism. The fuel has been the imperialism of the USA, the staggering wealth of far right amoral plutocrats, and the power craze of autocrats like Putin. The agents have been the greedy across the political spectrum, using weapons fashioned against opposition, the media, the smear, the odd assassination. Trump is the apogee, an amoral disturbed narcissist who has created a cult, could fire up the 2nd Civil War, and who could seriously immolate the world on a whim.
When I watch presentations like these I try to retain a sceptical eye for exaggerations and unfair caricatures that are used to make someone seem more unreasonable/unpleasant than they are. However Trump, as we see him here, is just like he seems. I find it incredible that he has this ability to make my skin crawl and yet still manage to strike a cord with so many Americans.
“still manage to strike a cord with so many Americans.”
These are the Americans (other than the pundits like Steve Bannon and is ilk) who have been hurting for the last 30 years and have received no action from the governments in power for the problems causing the hurt.
Dear Richard,
Thank you indeed for posting this. Robert Reich is an acute observer of the American political scene and not given to hyperbole (unlike the subject of his post.)
The prospect of Donald Trump regaining the White House is chilling.
Best,
Lawrence
I like Reich but there’s a big subtext here that needs to be put straight. Genocide Joe and the illusion that he’s the saviour of democracy. Trump isn’t the disease, he just the the sympton of a totally broken “democracy” – one that Biden very much helped break, in particular under the Obama/Biden regime (when he was VP) where the working classes were totally screwed over and the super rich got even richer. They were so woeful, they created such discontent that allowed Trump’s BS rhetoric to win the Presidency. And I will not be surprised again if Bidens continued failures allow it to happen for a 2nd time. And just look at how “democratic” the Democratic party are nowadays, its laughable:
