I read the news this morning and thought this:
I suspect it will not make one iota of difference.
But I think it's true.

Thank you for making such an important point!
Might the partisan obsession be a contributory factor to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East by obstructing equitable negotiation to address root causes?
But Party politics IS about sides; and virtually nothing else counts. Parliament is a cesspit; and that isn’t an accident. The Whip’s Office isn’t an accident; and it is represents the core values of the Party system; because substantively it IS the Party system. Without it the Party system collapses; and the glue that holds the Whipping system together does not bear close scrutiny.
British politics is a cesspit, and the cesspit is hiding in plain sight.
I knew someone would differentiate politics and party politics….
I have been a consistent critic of Party politics here, but the problem is this; what real traction does non-Party politics possess in the world of ‘politics”? Non-Party politics no doubt has the piety vote, but it never wins. Party easily takes care of that.
Non-party politics creates the arena in which the politicians play
Party politics is the arena in which the news agenda and media, in cooperation with Party and Government ,absorb the non-party politics into the Party system; take over the narrative, shape any policy implications into prevailing Party ideological orthodoxy, and spin the PR message in the media; and as a matter of fact, invariably win elections by any means – which is all that matters to Party.
Everything else is collateral damage. It doesn’t count.
Nail on head and all that – 10 out of 10.
This means thoughto me that about 99% of our current crop of politicians are failures.
Most politicians are Party animals.
My view is there is a third branch to this mess, Establishment Politics. It trumps both Party and Non Party politics and has been around for longer than both. Exactly who the establishment are and the social make-up may subtly change over time, but it sure as he’ll makes sure “It” stays in control of the reins.
Establishment politics?

Another attempt to get rid of working class MPs?
He used a trope
Not wise even if he used it with care – which his precise construction 8molied
“We won’t rest until we have justice. Until all people, Israelis and Palestinians, between the river and the sea, can live in peaceful liberty.”
Surely the trope is if it’s said against Israel. This isn’t. This suggests a two-state solution. Before becoming an MP Andy McDonald was a solicitor so I imagine he knew what he was saying.
Sorry, but I can’t interpret ‘8molied’.
As I said, he used it carefully. But it was still unwise- and he must have known it.

Is this non-party politics?
He’s an independent because Starmer kicked him out of the labour party.
I said this last night, having got fed up of various politicians performing the most excruciating verbal gymnastics to stay ‘on-side’ with the Israel-Gaza conflict.
When it is so obvious to the rest of us that innocent citizens are the victims and so-called leaders are the perpetrators of war crimes on both sides, saying anything else is not logical, ethical or forgivable.
