I have a confession to make. I overslept this morning, by quite a lot. Usually I am around by six or very soon after. This morning I must have missed the alarm, the rest of the household being up, and the sun streaming in and stayed asleep.
The result is a limited blogging output this morning. But maybe two threads yesterday will have to do, on top of which I also wrote a column for The National, did a 45 minute livecast with them, started reviewing an academic paper, spent time with university colleagues on two grant applications (one of which we now know is successful) and quite a lot else, including work on a new report on wealth taxes. I watched the mixed doubles final at Wimbledon last night and felt really tired. I obviously was!
So my apologies if there is less than usual to read this morning - but the day job also has demands that must be met today.
Thanks for reading this post.

Jesus over slept for 3 days, so you’re good.
No probs, Richard. You apparently needed it. I watched the mixed doubles final, too. I was glad the Ukrainian player’s team won.
Me too
Good for.you Richard
Ego te absolve!
I worked on a farm when I was a teenager routinely rising at 5ish to milk cows.Later my work which included extensive travel meant that I have always been an early riser. Recently working part time has allowed the luxury of an occasional turn over and sleep on and sometimes an afternoon schnoozel. It undoubtedly has a benefit for my wellbeing and is thoroughly recommended.
I have just written to my MP regarding the cost of living pressure my adult disabled son faces. He is now reliant on his very modest savings and financial support from parents to meet his frugal lifestyle. She has invited me to meet her so I will use the opportunity to articulate a wide a range of grievances as time will allow. All I can do is use my voice and my vote . I also spoke to BT this morning to complain about their cartel based inflationary pricing mechanism and am about to write to the CEO of Severn Trent. Feargal Sharkey was brilliant on The Rest is Politics Podcast.
Have an enjoyable weekend
Thanks Werner
And good luck
Sufficient sleep is essential for good health so no prplem for following the body’s request. I had a siailar thing = up at 4qm, driving for 12 hours – needed some kip.
When a Mans got to do what a Mans got to do…………
I am sure you needed it
I did
I have felt shattered all day
For once I am heeding its advice to me and taking it relatively easily (although there may be a long thread in the morning)
“A man’s got to know his limitations “.
Clint Eastwood (Magnum Force.)
Even the Duracell Bunny occasionally needs a battery change.
I had one
I was really whacked – biut I did write a lot of this morning’s thread, just out
I missed the livestream and can’t seem to find it on The National website or app. Any chance of a pointer Richard?
I can’t see it either…
Good morning Richard,
Being as you seem to have plenty of time on you hands , I mean ‘sleeping late’, what sort of working class hero does that?
I was wondering if you had ever read this report from Prof John Doyle of Dublin City University & if not, could you (between naps perhaps? ) and also briefly comment on its conclusion?
Seems to me instead of having a ‘lie in’ tomorrow, even if it is a Sunday, you could find time to speed read this?
I’m deducing you are a highly competent ‘speed reader’ otherwise the volume & value of your output could only be the result of some alien superpower. ( my great grandson taught me some emoji language, apparently, this means I’m joking!
Diolch/Thanks,
Richard

Not this weekend….
Many thanks!
