The BBC's Question Time programme was worth watching last night, largely for the sake of the open derision of the Tory minister who had been rolled out to bat for the government. The almost Andrew Murrison MP must have wondered what hit him.
He was openly laughed at when he said the government would green the airline industry so that people could continue to go on holidays in the sun: people know that is not possible.
No one believed his assurance on access to housing, during which he defended the sale of council houses.
When Fiona Bruce asked if anyone in the Bristol audience supported the government's policy on Rwanda not a single hand went up.
The policy was attacked for its inhumanity by a vicar in the audience, who delivered positive praise for the role refugees can play in our society.
But the best intervention was this one, which was worth clicking on the tweet to view. The audience support was very strong indeed:

When the time has come that people openly deride ministers then the time has come for a government to go.

Its a common accusation pointed at many on The Left, including me, that they are a ‘Threat To National Security’, BUT it seems to me that right now the threat to the UK comes from The Conservative Party. Not only that but unlike anyone previously slandered in this way they have the capacity to cause the nation to break apart and/or slump into disorder and lawlessness
Last time the won an eighty seat majority with only 24% support from the registered electorate. Winning isn’t all that difficult with FPTP, and certain other built-in advantages; if you own most of the Press, have most influence on the formation of the media Agenda through the Press because the terrestrial media has a Licence; have a clear money-resource advantage over everyone else at all times, and can protect your vote distribution advantage because constituency changes tend to go your way (how often do they advantage other parties, de facto?; I ask in genuine curiosity).
I laugh at Question Time to be honest and the R4 version. I can’t abide them.
They might well laugh at ministers during theatre like this, but it’s what they do at the ballot box that worries me. I’m not reassured.
I dual task when it is on and watch the earlier live version. This blog’s schedule dies not allow for late nights
