The Climate Change Commission has said that the Scottish government is not doing enough to meet its climate change targets for 2030. That might put it amongst the majority of governments, but Nicola Sturgeon has made a lot of noise on this issue, not least at COP27.
Now the SNP group in Westminster has a new leader. Stephen Flynn is the MP for Aberdeen South and is notably keen on continuing oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. That is a cause for real concern.
The SNP wants to present itself as a government in waiting for an independent Scotland. If that is the case then it most definitely needs to get its act together on climate change. No government in waiting, let alone in power, can fail on this issue. It looks as if the SNP is not doing enough on the most important political issue for many young people. That's really not good enough. They need to wake up and smell the pollution, and then do a lot more about it.

What does the commission say about the English government?
I have not checked of late
I can find a Climate Change Committee ( not Commission )
This report is chaired by Lord Deben. Remember him? aka John Selwyn Gummer of BSE and of feeding beefburger to small daughter fame.
Check out Talking-Up Scotland blog by John W Robertson. He spends much time reading and picking apart many press and media releases. Today’s is ‘BBC Scotland : only some plummeting graphs are good it seems’, on this same report.
The CCC website is the usual tangle to negotiate, and just typing in ‘England’ as a search is not great. I did find something of June 2021 for England which at a quick skim did not glow with praise. Quite easy to find ‘Wales’ Scotland’ ‘Northern Ireland’ under the ‘Publications’ drop down though.
I dont live in Scotland and am not a Scot but I get a feeling that in many areas the SNP could do a lot better.
.
The Ferguson/Ferries debacle is a prime example but there seem to be significant issues with a number of public services in Scotland such as education.
But you see no outcry from those using the Scottish Education system nor really any other public service. That is because these ‘stories’ are the just propaganda ‘one liners’ dropped into every story, every interview, every opportunity by the media and by the British parties. ‘Scottish education is a shambles’. That’s it They are never substantiated and when repeated often enough they become the truth for the gullible and the inattentive. They are as much propaganda as the creation of ‘Ruth Davidson, future PM’ was. At the centre of this is the BBC. And meanwhile the SNP continue to enjoy huge support. There are many real criticisms to be made of the SNP but none of them come from the vilest media and the vilest political class in Europe. And as for the BBC and the months long Ferry ‘fiasco’ – Pffft !
Given the natural resources at Scotland’s disposal, I am somewhat disappointed about this.
But – as I suppose Mr Warren reminds me constantly – the Scots – their politicians at least – seem more willing to think ‘English’ than we realise.
Let’s hope that they can lose this rather worrying habit asap.

Government can’t even agree to this, even though it did agree to it in 2020!
When they say they will not put anything onto our children or grandchildren, they don’t realise the wider implications of what they are doing to nature, and the mess they are leaving for their/our children and grandchildren to clear up. All the government ever means is money.
Whenever they are challenged about anything to do with society, the spokesperson always tells us how much money the government has put into the plan. They don’t realise that most problems in this country need more people to resolve them.
